dAN and I have worked together at a few different companies over the years and over the last 2 years we both worked for IBI Group, Inc. in the Land Surveying department. I am the department manager and yesterday I was forced to lay off 4 employees one of which was dAN. I don't have to tell you how much that sucked. dAN is currently trying to find another job and I'm doing what I can to help. dAN has always used his work internet access to post to KW so it may be a few days before he'll be posting again when his home isp is setup.
Its really depressing to be here at the moment.
"If you can't tell the difference, what difference does it make?"
That had to have been a rough situation, for both of you. Now more than ever, dAN needs internet access at home, though - I would think it'd be very difficult to complete a job sweep/interview/followup without easy Web access. That, and KW needs to hear from him.
It was very hard to look 4 guys in the eye and tell them the company could no longer afford to keep them. Work has slowed considerably for the Land Surveying business as a whole due to the loan crisis. I was able to inform dAN a day earlier when I found out so he had a heads up and a head start on a job search.
He is scheduled to have his dsl service activated on the March 10th.
"If you can't tell the difference, what difference does it make?"
Thanks guys. We're adjusting to the situation. dAN got a severance package so he's okay for the time being and I'm learning to cope with most of the Survey department gone. I'm guessing dAN may post over the weekend if he is near a computer but he ought to be back posting daily by Monday.
"If you can't tell the difference, what difference does it make?"
I would imagine that it is. Let's ask dAN to describe it when he gets back.
I doubt it would be any less craptastic if we euphemized it into 'outplacement benefits package', 'independence incentive', 'alternative employment bonus', 'green slip with a pink cast', 'parting gifts'...
In an attempt to distract you from my poor timing with thesaurus abilities, here is an instant French lesson - the word 'craptastic' translated into French is merdifique.
This severence package is a bit different from the package severence I got via my divorce....then again, I am typing this from my ex's PC (mine will be up monday), so I'm thinking she went easy on me. Job hunting's a bitch in this market, though; then again, I've never had any problems getting a job before, so any difficulties are foreign territory for me. Hopefully this won't last, but for the time being I'm going to help watch the kids, fix up stuff around her house (just fixed her doorknob), fix bandmates amps and guitars and hopefully catch some freelance drafting to get through this.

Dandelion will make you wise
Tell me if she laughs or cries
Blow away dandelion
I'm afraid there's no denying
I'm just a dandelion
a fate I don't deserve.
