My dearly departed pup

Last weekend was terrible.

My poor old dog got into a fight with the neighbor's always wandering german shepherd. She got the worse of it and I didn't find her until about 12 hours later. My neighbors told me they saw the fight but didn't realize she was so badly hurt. I took her to the vet right away but he told me it was too late to do anything but have her put to sleep.

She was 13 years old and could've lived at least 3 or 4 more.
Later I confronted my neighbor about it and he accused my dog of starting the fight and threatened to sue me for damages. Being somewhat upset about losing my dog, I knocked him out with a hook to the eye that fractured my hand. I suppose I deserved that. I drug him over into his yard and called his wife who fortunately took my side. He later apologized (with a nasty looking black eye), admitting he was very rude about the situation. I also told him I was sorry for hitting him. Maybe I'm just sorry I fractured my hand on his head?
I'll post a picture of my dog in the member gallery later. I loved that dog.

((((((kins))))))
I can so relate to your loss .. I love all my animals .. and have buried those that have died .. and it has always wrenched my heart ..
We lost our faithful dog a few years ago .. she had to be put to sleep .. she was in so much pain .. the vet said she really ought to be put down .. It was one of the hardest decisions I have ever made .. and I hated .. even though I knew it was right
I really feel for you! Our pets are .. our friends!! It would kill me to lose any of those I love!!
Even a stray kangaroo recently was hit by traffic on the road not far from home .. but he was still alive! I dove from the passenger side of our moving vehicle and ran to remove this injured roo from the middle of the road. I am not that big .. and this was a huge roo. I heaved it off the road .. and tried to keep it calm .. while my hubby caught up and rang the rspca .. We waited with this roo for nearly 2 hrs .. stroking it gently and praying it would be ok .. for the rspca officer to arrive .. My hubby tried to move it further from the roads edge .. and couldnt budge it .. I tell you I was operating on just adrenalin

.. and tapped into my dormant superhuman powers

lol
the rspca guy came .. and took one look at it .. and said I'm going to have to put it down!!! I was devastated .. but there was nothing I could do ..

.. I went home and cried my heart out ..
I hate it when anything dies .. but particularly poor defenseless animals .. and more especially those we love as our friends.
my prayers are with you kins .. this is a very great loss .. and I am so very sorry
for what its worth .. i personally believe you will see her again one day .. and she will run to you wagging her tail .. happy to see you too!!

So sorry about your dog, ks.

Losing a dog is much worse than you imagine it is before if happens to you.
Not so sorry you punched the guy unconscious.
Sorry about your hand though.

The strength of the mountain is in your veins when you need it. You poor thing.

Such a sad story. (And almost surreal for those of us who don't see roo's ever.)

during the bushfires and the drought so many animals were lost and those that didnt die in the fires ..and came down for water .. so many are killed by the traffic ..
that rspca guy put down 7 that night before he got to us
its all so sad .. be strong kins ..
and yeah I am glad that guy apologised .. that was really insensitive of him to threaten to sue you!!
what a nerve!!
I am sure I would have wanted to punch him too

So sorry for your loss Kins! We had to put Lothloriengoldberry down last year...The talking dog, Mountian dog, the beyond beautiful tri-colored collie lassie. It is so tuff when a beloved member of the family goes..

I can't imagine how difficult it must be to lose a pet, especially in such a heinous fashion. I can understand why you lost it on your neighbor. I probably would've done the same. Sorry for your loss, Kin. Take care.

Well, what a coincedense. My pup, Ghretha, died on Wednsday. And my cat, Fluffy, died this morning.
Kin, I know how you feel, having said the burial prayers for every cat and dog in my neighborhood in GA, and having left behind an entire graveyard full of family members, and having to start another one here. So far, the total count in our current graveyard is 7.
Oh, and you should've used an upward thrust of your hand to his nose. Much more effective, and less damaging to your hand. Then again, it might've killed him, but he had it coming!

Losing a pet is like losing a most beloved member of the family. Sorry to hear about the unfortunate circumstances Kin.

sorry to hear of your loss kin. I also had to have my dog put to sleep, a few yrs ago. He was 15 and turns out had a cancerous tumor, so it was for the best. Didn't make it any easier though.
Thoughts & prayers are with ya kin.

Oh Kins! I'm so sorry
I've lost many animal friends, and it never gets any easier.
My sincerest sympathies.
I hope you fractured that jerks jaw when you fractured your hand!

One of my cats died last Saturday. We've been carrying him around in the back of the truck with us all week. We call it, "Fluffy's Last Stand."
Don't look at me, it was my mom's idea.
I'm not joking. He's in the oven on the porch now. No, we're not cremating him, we've just put him there for safekeeping. By "we", I mean my mom. I think we're going to go another week. And to think, the doctors at the Mental Health Place say she has a problem. They must be crazy.
So, tell me, would you like me to put this guy on my list of people I'm going to kill when I go berserk? I'll make it painful, trust me.
