Thomas Covenant tattoo!!!

Post by Rocksister »

If there is a forum for this, sorry, I didn't find one. I have seen a couple of tee shirts with some quotes on them. But I was wondering if any of you would be brave enough to have something tattooed on your body for life related to the Chronicles. Could be a picture of how you imagine something would look, or a quote. There are so many wonderful quotes that I'd have a hard time finding one. I love the idea from the humor section, the Staff of Law with a quote "This is my boom stick." Cracks me up to no end. Or maybe the yellow carious eyes tattooed one on each, uh, cheek. Or a white gold ring tattooed around the belly button. Sorry, I'm in one of those moods, I guess. And I have two more years to kill. Any takers on my goofy post? How about "We suffice." Or "Bloody Hell." Or "You never loved me anyway." Or a picture of the krill with a three-fingered hand holding it. Nom. Vain. Drool.
Heard my ears aright? Did not the gaddhi grant me this glaive?

Waddley already has. Here's a picture of her showing it to SRD at the most recent Elohimfest in Albuquerque.

I thought there was a picture of a close up of her tatoo, which says "there is also love in the world," but I can't find it.

hehe...not any quotes but i do have the Number 7 on my arm, signifigant of the seven words of power ...the seven wards ...and the quote..."by the Seven" and of course the lucky number seven. but it looks like a scythe.

I did it myself with india ink and a needle and thread when i was 15 and not a bad job either, a marine bet me $400 that it would fade in a year and it didnt..and of course i never saw the guy again... so I guess you could say the Chronicles left an Impression on me at an Early age.

N and M on either side of a belly button would be cute.

I have a skull and entwined snake on one arm, and an eagle on the other. I wonder if there's anything i could do to customise these Landwards?

Love Brasidas' idea about NOM and the belly button. And your 15-year-old attempt to tat your own self is pretty funny, Blackhawk. Ever considered a career in tattooing? Your other artwork is pretty awesome. Waddley's tat it awesome; just can't see it very well in that view. That is a great quote, too. SRD must have been flattered. A skull and snake.......makes me think of Marid for some reason. The eagle makes me think of the three-winged bird in the First Chrons, the one they shot down with an arrow outside of Soaring Woodhelven. But as far as incorporating them into a tattoo, I'm at a loss there, Brasidas. I have an anchor tat on my right shoulder blade; could be for many reasons, but it signifies Starfare's Gem. I plan to have a compass rose on the left shoulder blade when I can get around to it. Also for Starfare's Gem. The Giants are my favorite part of the Chrons, bar none.

So you'll have the anchor on one side, the compass rose on the other. The middle will just be crying out for a Giantship...

Actually, I think he was a little more freaked out than anything else :) You should have seen the look on his face when I asked him what he thought about me getting his likeness tattooed on my rear.

Here's a closer picture, at about a year old:

Waddley, the tat is truly breathtaking. Freaked out? I'd have thought he was flattered beyond words. Oh, yea, SRD always has words for every occasion. Maybe the guy doesn't realize how rabid and loyal his fans are, or how genius his work is. Well, whatever the case, getting freaked out is not what I'd expect. A Giantship on my back? My back is fairly tiny, dude. It would have to say "to be continued" or something. Maybe just a section of the prow, with Findail standing there in his abject misery and Vain grinning with his black teeth at him. There are a thousand things I could think of to put there. But how do you tell a tattoo artist what you want when they never heard of it? "Hey, man, can you do Cavewights?" "See where all these rolls of fat are around my belly? Perfect place for a jeherrin." "I want Nom on my thigh." "Hey, do Landsdrop right HERE........."

I am totally unsurprised, from reading a little in the GI and from hearing from a RL friend who went to a signing of FR.

"Service enables service."

Foamfollower said this to Covenant in one of the books (can't remember which one). It's incredibly simple yet powerful. I want to get it tattooed on my upper right arm.

That's from LFB, GG. :D And welcome to the Watch.
"All right. So you're right. Tell me, just where the hell do you get hope?"

Slowly, the Giant rose to his feet. He towered over Covenant until his head nearly touched the ceiling. "From faith."

"You've been dealing with humans too long - you're getting hasty. 'Faith' is too short a word. What do you mean?"

Foamfollower began picking his way among the flowers. "I mean the Lords. Consider, Covenant. Faith is a way of living. They have dedicated themselves wholly to the services of the Land. And they have sworn the Oath of Peace - committed themselves to serve the great goal of their lives in only certain ways, to choose death rather than submit to the destruction of passion which blinded High Lord Kevin and brought the Desecration. Come - can you believe that Lord Mhoram will ever despair? That is the essence of the Oath of Peace. He will never despair, nor ever do what despair commands - murder, desecrate, destroy. And he will never falter, because his Lordship, his service to the Land, will sustain him. Service enables service."

I wasn't quite sure where to put this.....

Image

When I was 19 (twelve years ago), I decided to end my life, and started cutting veins open on my foot (I was going to cut them all open, I decided to start from the bottom up). But I realized that I wanted to live before I got very far with it.

I have struggled with depression and suicide most of my life, and when I see those scars on my foot, I sometimes think, especially when I am feeling down, that perhaps I made a mistake by not going through with it.

So this is a message to myself, so I can see something positive to go along with the negative. And also to remind myself that I have to keep moving forward, even if at times I do not see any joy in life. I don't know quite how to put it all into words.

But it was important to me that I do it myself, rather than having someone else do it.

Btw, who says that / where exactly or what incident?

Maybe it should be obvious to me, (I mean, probably Covenant!) but I'm not recollecting that specific quote.
