Wizards First Rule TV Series

Post by wayfriend »

Under the heading of stuff that gets greenlit while Covenant languishes ...

Sam Raimi seems to be producing a TV series based on Wizards First Rule.

Excuse my while my breakfast repeats.
"Wizard's" stars Craig Horner as woodsman Richard Cypher, who transforms into a magical leader and joins with a mysterious woman named Kahlan (Bridget Regan) to stop a bloodthirsty, sinister tyrant. The series has been cleared in more than 95% of the country for its fall launch. Twenty-two episodes will be produced for the 2008-09 season.

Hmmm....

Never read any of this series, and from what I've heard, I have no desire too. My opinion (again, without having read the stuff) is that a TV show based on this stuff would probably just reinforce the typical stereotype that the public has against fantasy - that of juvenile, superficial tripe.

Ugh.

Well, I personally don't think that fantasy translates all that well to movies or tv (except for LoTR I guess), so they might as well make a show about the Sword of Truth. It's better that than seeing your favorite stories become a caricature of themselves.

What the heck does that mean? I can guess, but sounds a bit odd.
Cowboy: Why you doin' this, Doc?
Doc Holliday: Because Wyatt Earp is my friend.
Cowboy: Friend? Hell, I got lots of friends.
Doc Holliday: ... I don't.

Wizards First Rule is one of my favorite books. But I have to say, with this series, its the first time one of my favorite books and one of the worst books Ive ever read were in the same series. Pillars of Creation and Naked Empire are possibly the worst books ever written.
