Chapter 6, Part 2 of FR (Sons) was the single awesomest chapter of the Last Chronicles thus far.

Oh, and the image of Mahtiir and Bahpa charging towards 200 Cavewrites is the coolest scene ever.

Ah. The Battle of First Woodhelven. Donaldson called it EITKS - Everything Including the Kitchen Sink. I call it the Battle of Five Incomprehensible Armies.

I'm still waiting for these books to hit First or Second Chronicle gear. It seems LFB and TIW went to a panorama of places and this series slowly pumps out the familiar sights as if bait dangling before the reader. It took the entire first book to get to Revelstone, and only now are we at Andelain...

Since I read FR so much later than others, Duchess was already pretty much finished with her informal group read of it over on the Hangar. I would read a chapter, and then go read Duchess' thoughts on said chapter right after.

This was one chapter I was particularly glad to have her help in processing.

Bah, how could anyone not love that chapter. It was friggen insane. It totally made up for having to listen to Linden for 1.5 books before this. (Well, almost...heh.)

Seriously, though, before this chapter, I didn't realize how much I wanted to watch a battle between Esmer and the Harrow. Now I do. Very badly.

The chapter was entitled "Sons." What does that imply? Obviously, there is Roger (Thomas' son), Esmer (Cail's son), but what else? Jeremiah was missing, the most blatant "son" throughout the series thus far. Linden has spent two books obsessing about "My son this" and "My son that" yet he was absent from this chapter entirely. He was by Roger's side ever since they entered the Land, yet, when it comes to this chapter, he's not there. Does that strike anyone else as peculiar? Maybe it's Donaldson's way of saying something: That Jeremiah is not a "son" of Linden. We all know that, really, but maybe it's SRD's way of saying that there is no real connection between him and Linden.

One of the most obvious implications of the chapter title and the story is Stave. I'm not sure if it's in this chapter or before, but through the course of Stave's stories, we learn that he has three sons, yet, since we were not given their identities, we can only assume that he left them long ago in Guard's Gap. It is also in this chapter where we have the decree that the Humbled will join Linden's group in order to keep her actions in line with the intentions of the Masters. Before this, when the Humbled were fighting Stave, they relished the chance to contest him; they showed visible emotion at the chance to best him in physical combat. Why is that? It's because, the Humbled are Stave's three sons. I think that will be revealed later in the story when one of the Humbled ends up dying.

The Sandgorgon's were all Nom's sons too.

I can't believe that!

I think Jeremiah is back in the batcave because Foul wants Linden to try to rescue him, that's all. He wouldn't risk sending him out now that Linden might try rescue him. (Something he didn't have to worry about before.)
