10 Best Vampire Movies

Post by Zahir »

I collect vampire flicks and here's my list. My bet is some of them you haven't heard of...

--Bram Stoker's Dracula (the most interesting and faithful adaptation of the novel)
--Interview With The Vampire (just goes to show what a good cast and crew can do with this theme)
--Sundown: The Vampire In Retreat (a cowboy vampire western...really)
--The Understudy: Graveyard Shift II (direct to video, but very spooky and even Faustian)
--Shadow of the Vampire (Willem Dafoe as a vampire and John Malkovitch as the director using him)
--Vampire Journal (from Full Moon, a very atmospheric tale, full of mood and overacting but well-done for all that)
--Lets Scare Jessica To Death (genuinely spooky, and btw Stephen King's favorite vampire flick)
--The Vampire Lovers (very Hammer cheesy, but well-done cheese and so far the best adaptation of "Carmilla")
--Nosferatu (the original silent, preferably with an excellent musical score)
--Dracula's Daughter (the sequel to the Lugosi film, and one of Anne Rice's faves)

JMHO 8)

The Lost Boys (Santa Cruz would be great if it wasn't for all the ****ing vampires)
Shadow of the Vampire (I'll eat her later)
Buffy the Vampire Slayer (Kill him... a lot)
Love at First Bite
I Was a Teenage Vampire
Vampire in Brooklyn (ok, not really. this movie was just so bad it's funny)
Dead and Loving It (same as above)
The Monster Squad
The Fearless Vampire Killers Or: Pardon Me, But Your Teeth Are In My Neck (1967) (haven't actually seen this one, but it sounds cool)
Vampire Hunter D

I don't go in for many modern vampires movies with the exception of:
The Lost Boys
Shadow of the Vampire
Interview
Nightwing
and Carpenter's Vampires (which I admit was very "Dusk to Dawn" cheesy, but it WAS shot in New Mexico!!!)

and that one vigniette in Grim Prairie Tales was outrageously cool!

With the old ones I'd go with:
The Chistopher Lee one where he falls off the cliff onto the gold crucifix type thingy...(Blood of Dracula, was it??? :? )
The Classic: Nosferatu
Legosi's Dracula, of course...
Andy Warhol's Fearless Vampire Killers
the absolutely campy, but great, The Last Man on Earth with Vincent Price !

the worst has got to be: Queen of the Damned

haven't seen Bram Stoker's but might give it a try...

Worst Vampire Flicks

Post by Zahir »

You clearly haven't seen A Polish Vampire in Burbank or Werner Herzog's remake of Nosferatu or The Seven Golden Vampires (so horrible AI and Hammer wouldn't release it!).

Near Dark definitely.
Ravenous is almost a vampire movie.
"Interview" I like.
Outback Vampires.
Red Blooded American Girl.

I love vampire stuff. Have seen a lot of vamp movies but I havent come across Near Dark....sounds good.

My faves were Lost Boys, Interview and i loooooovvveeee Angel (even thought he's TV not movies).
I was bitterly disappointed with Queen Of The Damned. :(
It was my fav book of the Vampire Chronicles ..... there was so much potential for the movie, but it was butchered. :(

Near Dark is a FANTASTIC movie! Go get it out, its in all decent video stores. The diner scene is deliciously disturbing.

This should help. Oh, man. It has Bill Paxton. I hate that guy.

Love Vampire movies if they're done well and don't over-load the gore.
Many good selections (above and previous pages) but one there that I didn't see (and didn't expect to see...would've been surpised and pleased if I did see it on someone's list).... Deafula 1974
Written, directed, starring Peter Wolf
This is an extremely rare flick and even today I wouldn't know how to find it. Imdb.com has it listed and the users comments trash the flick badly but I thought it was well done considering it was all deaf actors and the entire film is done in sign language with very bad dubbing. Agreed that subtitles would've made the film better.
Check it out if you can find it.
