Well Done Lewis Hamilton

Post by Queeaqueg »

McLaren's and Britain's Lewis Hamilton became F1 World Champion last night. All he needed was 5th and he came in at 5th place but it was tight, he was 6th until the last corner where Toyota's Timo Glock and entered the pit straight. Ferrari Massa won the race but Lewis came 5th to win the race.

He is now the youngest world champion in F1 history.

Hamilton was lucky in the end I must say a few questionable decisions by his team, when Vettel passed him I taught he was a gone but Glock really slowed down, was he really struggling in the end with dry tyres on :?:
A lie well told and told often enough,I'm damned if the truth will ever catch up with it!

What a finish! Luck did factor in to it, but he had as much bad as good I think. He probably should've gone on to dry tyres early instead of waiting to see what Massa did. Fernando Alonso made the switch early and that's what elevated him to second, McLaren were a bit too conservative there I think.

It was bad luck that it then started raining in the dying laps and McLaren had a real knife-edge judgement call to make and they got it right, just barely. The Toro Rosso works very very well in the wet so it was no surprise when Vettel got past Hamilton, and he had no chance of catching him again so it all came down to whether Toyota's gamble of staying on dry tyres til the end was going to pay off. It very nearly did, but by the last lap all heat had gone out of the tyres and Glock and Trulli (the only other driver on dry tyres) both posted times of 1:44, with Glock fractionally faster. Meanwhile Vettel and Hamilton rattled round in 1:18 and once they were on Glock, he had no grip or speed to fend them off with. Of course, if Toyota had decided to bring their drivers in for intermediates like everyone else then Glock would've been well behind Hamilton and we wouldn't have had such a dramatic finale!
Q. Why do Communists drink herbal tea?
A. Because proper tea is theft.

I really had to stifle my cheers on Sunday - the gf is a Ferrari fanatic and was extremely pissed off! The best thing to ever happen to F1 was Schumacher retiring!

I am a huge F1 fan and Schumacher is from country but I completely agree with you. Actually more than that - the best thing was BOTH Schumacher's retiring. I have been a McLaren fan since the days of James Hunt (I was 6 years old back then), however I have always been a fan of Finnish drivers - tough choice for the last two seasons.
