HBO Greenlights Game Of Thrones

As they say it's not a feature film but the story is so complex it will take a series to address the gritty details. Thank goodness it wasn't SCIFI that picked up the series. Yeah I know they've done good work with BSG and the like but I can't get all of those horrible B movies out of my mind when SCIFI is mentioned. Anyway with HBO I would expect the series to be of a high pedigree. We'll see.

I'm looking forward to checking it out.

Hmmm, how to convince my darling wife I need HBO and nfl sunday ticket?

Hell, I like those B movies on the sci-fi channel. Giant mosquitos rule!

I really wonder if Martin can write the next two books (after he finishes ADWD) in time to stay ahead of the series. If the show is a tremendous success, he can't possibly take 5 years per book to finish the series. That would put him out until 2019. If he takes 4 years per book, then we're looking at 2017 before the series is complete. The show will be screwed. Maybe if the series is a big success during the first couple of seasons, he'll get off his butt and write a little faster.

An update straight from the George's mouth:

"But HBO has signed a director for the GAME OF THRONES pilot, and the first cast member has come aboard as well.

The pilot will be helmed by Tom McCarthy, director of THE VISITOR and THE STATION AGENT.

And playing Tyrion Lannister will be Peter Dinklage, who was almost everyone's "dream casting" for the role (he certainly was mine):

You can read more details in THE HOLLYWOOD REPORTER, which broke the news this morning:

I'm thrilled.

Things are starting to move a lot faster now. The rest of the year is going to be exciting!"

Personally, I was cheering for Peter as well. I consider Tyrion to be one of the paramount characters of the first three books (seasons et al).

Hope this cheers everyone!

Dinklage is excellent news.

Yeah :(

I can't wait to see who they get to play Jamie and Dany. They're who I really care about.

They have cast more, Jaime is to be played by Nikolaj Coster-Waldau. It's an interesting choice. So just to refresh, the entire cast as stands so far is:
Sean Bean - Ned Stark
Peter Dinklage - Tyrion Lannister
Jennifer Ehle - Caetlyn Stark
Nikolaj Coster-Waldau - Jaime Lannister
Iain Glenn - Jorah Mormont
Kit Harrington - Jon Snow
Tamzin Merchant - Daenerys Targaryen
Sophie Turner - Sansa Stark
Maisie Williams - Arya Stark
Alfie Allen - Theon Greyjoy
Jack Gleeson - Joffrey Baratheon
Harry Lloyd - Viserys Targaryen
Richard Madden - Robb Stark
Mark Addy - Robert Baratheon

I think they should have cast Sean Bean as Jaime though, I don't want him killed off so soon. I loves me some Sean Bean.... :)
