My perfect game has arrived!
I had to spend £100 on upgrading my 4 year old pc up to 2 year old standard to run the bloody thing but blimey it was worth it.
The most fun that can be had while clothed.
I'm on it every night now but have to have a quick play of something calmer before I go to ned to settle my adrenalin down!
I've followed the TOCA series for a decade and it's progressed very nicely to get the right balance between sim and aracade racer.
Only dabbled with online but on a good server it can be very rewarding too.

I've got this for the 360, I have to admit when I first played the demo it downright offended me with its weird arcadey handling. I'm still upset that Codemasters were so brazen as to admit that, because their sales went way up when they changed the Colin McRae series from a sim-style game to an arcade-style game, that's how they're going to make all their driving games from this point forward. I'm already weeping for their upcoming Formula 1 game.
Having said that, once I played the full game at a friend's house I realised that in spite of the lack of realism, GRID is just plain fun. I quickly realised that the game doesn't work very well from the in-cockpit 'head cam', which is a shame because it's beautiful. But you really need to see how the car is behaving, because if you're used to sims you'll crash all the time because the car bites or turns in when you expect it to slide or understeer.
My favourite aspect of the game is running my own racing team, managing the sponsorship money, buying cars and hiring and firing drivers (oh, so much firing). The one thing that does spoil the enjoyment for me is the Le Mans 24 hour race at the end of every season. The circuit and race would actually be a lot of fun and the prize money is great, but it's extremely difficult to see during the night section. This forces you to slow down quite a bit, but the computer cars don't so you end up having to drive like a demon in daylight just to end up at the front.
There's a downloadable car pack available on Xbox Live at the moment, but it's quite pricey and I don't really feel the need for extra cars as the game has a good selection already.

Q. Why do Communists drink herbal tea?
A. Because proper tea is theft.

I began playing this game only a week ago...and I love it! I saw that PC Gamer had named this the best racing title of 2008 and I can see why. The graphics are very pretty, with some of the best looking cars I've seen in a racing game (not that I've been playing a whole lot of them).
The handling seems reasonably accurate to me without being too hardcore - not too arcade-like, not too sim-like. Well, maybe it would have benefited from being just a tad more sim-like...but I'm not complaining too much. (I use a Saitek dual analog control pad, btw.)
The thing I love above all else is the replay feature. This is by far the best instant replay I have ever seen in a racing game! I'm nearly in awe of it. To be able to rewind back to a precise moment and resume the race from there is tremendous. Maybe I'm just out of the loop and this sort of magical replay has been in a number of games already, but that doesn't diminish the fun I'm having with it.
