Come play with me in the sun!

Post by Waddley »

So I've mentioned it in some posts, but I want to make an actual thread about it... because I'm needy for attention like that.

In a few days I'm moving to Hawaii. Honolulu, to be precise. Practically downtown Honolulu, to be more precise. Why? Because it's Hawaii. For how long? As long as it takes. What am I going to do there? Surf. Drink. Eventually get a job. Yes, I know it's expensive. Yes I know that because of my poor Seattle skin I'll probably die of sun exposure in the first week. I'll cope.

Now- I need something from my buddies on the Watch. You have to come visit me!! I'll have a couch for you! OR a blow up mattress! I have a condo almost as near downtown as you can possibly want! I won't charge you! I don't snore, I can cook a mean tooterfish popkin, and some people say I'm pretty neat to hang out with. (Kevin's Watch references available upon request.)

I'm only going to know one person there (my room mate) and he'll be gone quite a bit. I'm planning on not having a computer or a TV. I may go stir crazy. (I hear they call that Island Fever?) I need you all for my sanity. And who doesn't want a vacation in Hawaii without paying for a hotel? Yeah, I don't provide room service, but I can show you all the cool places to do cool things! (I hope.)

So. Who's gonna come visit me in Hawaii?

Balon- This means that the care of Washington is left solely in your capable hands. Take care of her!

The t.v. I can understand.
But, no computer?
How are you going to stay in touch with us,
other than us flying over to visit you?

Well, the goal is to guilt you into visiting me ;)

My room mate will have a computer, and I'll most definitely be taking advantage of that. But my goal in this entire process has been to part with my possessions. I've donated a HUGE amount of clothes and random junk and I've parted with most of by book collection, which has been the most difficult thing so far. It's liberating to not have stuff. I don't like stuff. Stuff doesn't get you anywhere. (Except my bike. I'm keeping that because it DOES get me places.)
I do want to, in time, get myself a laptop. So even if I'm unable to stay in touch for some reason, it'll just be for a limited time.

I would, but I'm in the polar opposite of the country...distance-wise. Other than that, sure, I'll be there one year or decade or so.

Add another 500 miles or so south of LF for me...
(I think)
But hopefully one day.

..well Waddley...my sister's son has recently made the move also. My sister is insisting I go along with her sometime this spring on a visit...If all aligns well, i will have no excuses not to visit you. So do keep in touch.

BTW...yes,, do get your resume together and be patient. It does take a while to find a job, so start early. From everything i am hearing,,even a relaxed life style, is rushing it in Hawaii.

I'll be there, Wadds. Eventually. (Which is to say, probably not in '09. But I get a sabbatical in spring of '10.)

I'll keep her slightly moist and overcast for you to lose your tan in when you come visit!

I'm sort of in the same boat as Ali and Foul. I don't think I will be able to afford a trip, but should I be able to I will definitely let you know. :D

It's an admirable goal to give up (most of) your possessions, Waddley. My dream is also to live the most uncluttered life I can - short of becoming a monk and joining a monastery. (Uncluttered, yes; cloistered, no.)

However, there's no way I'd give up my camera. You'd have to pry it from my cold, dead fingers. ;) (Well, that or I could just buy another one.)

Sounds like you're well-prepared to have fun in Hawaii, but I wish you a swell time all the same! :)

You two have got Lord Foul in your boat? Well, there's your problem right there.

(I'm kidding, just kidding!)

I'll afford it when I'm a profo, but there has to be a guarantee that I get to stay at your house and not spend a blue million on some beach-side hotel while 90% of the natives live in Hobbit holes...

It's pretty liberating. I recommend it to everyone. Throw all of your stuff away! It's sweet :)

Null- What kinda lapel pin? And of course I will :)

Lucy- Bring whoever you want, they're invited, too.
