Gandalf is impossible to beat. Just about as iconic as a wizard can be. Throw in his rich history, the judicious restraint Tolkien showed in utilizing his powers, and yet how he was still able to convey a sense of depth and power . . . you can't beat it. Gandalf thankfully didn't spend his time shooting lightning or fireballs from his fingertips, but instead moved men's hearts.

Socrates, the Peaceful Warrior books by Dan Millman.
"It is not the literal past that rules us, save, possibly, in a biological sense. It is images of the past. Each new historical era mirrors itself in the picture and active mythology of its past or of a past borrowed from other cultures. It tests its sense of identity, of regress or new achievement against that past.”

Merlin isn't too shabby.

I like Stick a lot too. From Daredevil comic books, for those who don't know.

Avatar is an excellent show. (And not a bad Watcher, either. ;)) I haven't seen nearly as much of it as I wish.
