AATE Suppositions w/ FR Spoilers ! Read at your own risk!

Post by spoonchicken »

What's gonna happen in AATE? Here's some of my best guesswork.... First, the Worm of the World's End has begun to rouse at the end of FR. So, the very first thing is, somebody has to deal with it. Let us assume that TC is unable to help, because he's still too "weak & groggy" to be of any use/help. Therefore, LA must deal with it. (After all, it's her fault anyway, isn't it? Seems fair to me, that one must clean up one's own messes{lol}). Besides, she's already right in the middle of actively wielding some very serious theurgies (DUH!), so she's in the perfect position to deal with the problem. And besides, it would probably take a combination of both Law & wild magic to accomplish what needs to be done. Fighting the Worm would ( in my judgement) automatically result in the desruction of both the Earth & the Arch, therefore that's not an option. The only solution would be to soothe the Worm back into it's slumber (NOT full-blown sleep; remember?). Using the power of the Staff, LA "communicates" to the Worm, that "it's OK; don't worry about it.Please go back to sleep". The power of the wild magic enables her to elevate herself to the Worm's level of "comprehension". If she failed, the story would end right there (presumably anyway). And, IF such a thing were to happen, that sounds more like something that would happen in "The Last Dark". Therefore, let us assume, that LA successfully coaxes the Worm back to slumber.NEXT: LA is informed (by both TC and Infelice, perhaps) of the consequences of TC's ressurection, thereby laying the groundwork for the overall stakes of the entire Last Chrons becoming even more dire. (Presumably, things just got worse, therby increasing the tension levels of the reader. After all, lessening the tension would be counterproductive, wouldn't it? The author wants to keep increasing tension, until the explosive Grand Finale at the VERY end of the total story( whatever happens at the end of "The Last Dark". Right??? ) NEXT: The skurj attack Andelain. After all, we know it's gonna happen, and LA (and evryone else) is still in Andelain, so that seems like a reasonable thing to happen next. NEXT: LA's primary purpose seems to be saving Jeremiah first, and the Land second. She knows where he is by now, and TC is back. Also, both Kastenessen and the eldritch source of Kevin's Dirt are located in Mt. Thunder, and LA knows this. Therefore, it's time to go to Mt. Thunder, and attempt to resolve things there. On the way (of course), other stuff happens (LF sends somebody or something to oppose her, or Roger Covenant shows up again). When they get there, "crazy stuff happens", and leaves us with both a really good cliff-hanger, and the lead-in to "The Last Dark".

At the serious risk of sounding egotistical, perhaps now might be a good time to establish a full-blown AATE Forum.

Yes, I read that too...but I'm not sure who said it. I think it took quite a while to get a FR forum so an AATE may take a while too.

Ahem, back on topic. I think that LA will become the Worm of the World's End, just as TC became the Arch of Time. Then they can spoon lovingly for eternity.

Interesting. So LA resurrects TC, then she becomes the Worm and is trapped within the earth sleeping, leaving TC alone as she was left alone.

I can hear THOOLAH laughing already.

 well, I'm Against THAT Ending (and thus comments trying to be clever with the book title continue, and will continue until time is destroyed!)

I had a different thought about the Worm.. Probably ludicrous but I like the imagery. Say the sleeping Worm is the same as Jeremiah's awareness - maybe they share a link or are the same thing, and for Jeremiah to become fully aware then the worm must too...

But what I really wanted to mention was about Manacles. I've forever been of the impression that the Manacles were for the Ravers (as a form of redemption for the Ur-viles, the Ravers being their ancient foe) but SD gives a lot away in his books.. In Runes, there was a passage that read "In this time and place, she (Linden) might as well have asked for Covenant's resurrection." And Viola - what do we get at the end of Fatal Revenant? And in FR itself, there is this interesting line 'Catching her (Linden) arms in a grip as compulsory as manacles, he absorbed the force of her haste effortlessly."

TC: "Oh, Linden, what have you done?"
L:Covenant...
TC:No, no, just look at the mess you've made of things!
L:Hey, I was only trying to make the best out of your cryptic suggestions...
TC:How the bloody-hell do you get "burn Covenant back into existence" from "find me"? Huh?
L:Look, I'm sorry...
TC: You know what, you know what? (TC takes Manacles and binds Linden with them) There, now you can't f*** things up anymore, and give me back may ring! (TC takes back ring) It's time to actually start THE Last Chronicles of Thomas Covenant!
L: But...how am I suppose to save Jeremiah...
TC:(in mocking tone) how am I soppuse to save Jeremiah, SHUT UP! All you ever do is whine!

And so on and so forth...
