Relic

Post by jacob Raver, sinTempter »

These guys...are near gods to me...

Homeworld. Revolutionary doesn't even cut it...
Homeworld 2: awesome fun in 3D...

Dawn of War: good RTS with Squad-Tactics emphasis and introduction of Capture Points as Resources...

Company of Heroes: First true Real Time Tactics game, improving on most of what DoW was, and IMO one of the three best RTS' ever...

Have yet to play DoW2, but soon...

Somethin' I've always wondered, though: Why hasn't Relic took their prowess and made a Star Wars RTS?

Licensing, manpower, you name it.

They can only do so much. I don't think they're a large studio on their own, so they probably only work on one or two titles at a time. Since they've been busy with their other series, there just hasn't been time for a Star Wars title.

Then, there's licensing. While the Star Wars franchise has some great FPS games (specifically the Dark Forces series), and even a few good RPGs (KOTOR 1&2), most other SW games are mediocre at best. They probably didn't want to spend the cash that Lucas would charge them for a franchise that has been tarnished so much.

Yeah...but considering their game design with HW, I dunno, maybe Lucas would believe they'd make an unbelievable game...and not charge them so much?!

Ooh, I totally forgot the spaceflight games!

X-Wing, Tie Fighter, Alliance... all awsome, and defining games of the 90s!

Yeah, if LucasArts could get a HW style continuation of that series, it would seriously kick a**!

I played a demo of that newer SW RTS...hrm, can't remember name...was okay, but if an RTS doesn't add up (see equal SC, TA or CoH)...I get bored quickly...

...like I said, it's okay (and that's being nice)...if you're not a fan of SW - you'd probably think it's mediocre at best...

Oh yeah, I played that one. It was alright, but nothing to write home about.

Because they have limited staff, and they need to spend it their efforts on a better licence (Warhammer 40k). ;)
