I just surrendered..........I just could not finish it. It was awful. Complete schlock. The characters were one dimensional, the story forced and contrived. The stuff maybe a fourteen year old might like.

Another thing that struck me was the story line was remarkably similar to The Stand. A devastated world where the clearly evil and the clearly good are driven toward distinct goals. I mean really...... Logan / Stu being guided by The Lady / Mother Abigail. Fineas(or whatever his name was) / Randal Flagg

I have never read Terry Brooks before and it is going to be a long time before I attempt to read his stuff again, if ever.

You're a very brave woman for attempting Terry Brooks-I still think Angelfire East is one of the worst books ever written.

what about Terry Goodkind or George RR Martin?.

That was, probably, his agent writing that review. Dump Goodkind (although The Legend of the Seeker on TV is pretty good)-Martin is frigging great!

I've never read Paolini myself, but I've noticed a pattern in opinions of him: with very few exceptions, adults dislike him and twelve to sixteen year olds love him. If you've read glowing reviews, they were probably by adolescents.

Ya know, I fancy myself a speed reader...I read all 3 books in two days praying that each would get better. Sadly, I was most disapointed. It was so much...Run...Hide...Fight...Run some more....,Hide some more...Fight yet again.!. The characters never fully developed into people that I could care about.Not to mention the usual boy meets girl ,fall in love 1 minute later that Mr. Brooks has grown fond of. While I appreciate his efforts to tie the Word and Shannara series(s) together,it reminds me of my kids when they were very small..."Try this broccoli son" (kid eats).."Is it good?" (kids nods head yes- faking it)" Want some more? " (kids nods head sideways mumbling "Nope")

I enjoyed Eragon but only from the perspective of, how cute, a kid wrote this.

I also enjoyed the first of the Legend of the Seeker books but declined to read more. I heard that things deteriorated as the series went on and lost interest.

I read one of the Shannara books years ago and had my fill. Too derivative.
