Lets settle this...
Are meanings in songs really important?

Yeah, this'll settle it! 
At the end of the day (hey Sky
), my only real concern with a song is its musical aspects. If I like the music, I don't much care what it says. Sing la la la in a way that I like, and I'm happy. I love when a song that I like musically also has lyrics that move me, but it's not required. Just a happy bonus.
Otoh, if I love its lyrics, but don't like the music, I won't listen to it. If the lyrics are that good, I might just read it as poetry.

Mana? The Mexican group? Awesome group!!!! Heh, probably not what you meant. 
But it does demonstrate my feelings about this very well. I don't understand more than a dozen word in Spanish, so I don't know what the heck Mana is singing about. But I LOVE their music! It gives me feelings that the lyrics might not have in mind, but that's too darned bad. Actually, I've had a couple people translate the songs for me now and then, and, indeed, they are not always about what I get from them without knowing.

I enjoy songs that say something to me, or touch me in some way more then I like songs that are just jibberish.
That's not to say that I don't like "fun" music. I consider myself eccletic, I love all kinds of music, from classical to country to jazz to easy listening to rock and roll. I like it to "say" something to me, even if it's "okay, girl, time to get up and shake your groove thing."
Love Shack comes to mind for shaking that thing...hehehe
