Fix This.

Post by Mr. Broken »

I gave up trying to figure this out. Ive been struggling with it for 2 decades. How do you fix The Cleveland Browns.
1 playoff game (loss) since 1999.

Do you fire the coach? Beats me , Mangini is like the sixth, or seventh coach since 1999. That tells me that as much as we hate to hear it, fans in Cleveland hold too much sway over the franchise.

If so who do you hire? Who can you hire ? Its not as if any upper tier coaches want the job. If you pay someone enough to make it worth it , will there be anything left for the team.

Do you pay players more to come here? This one is the only no brainer of the bunch as far as Im concerned. Absolutely you do. Not only that you sweeten the deal for your productive veteran's (Josh Cribbs).

I've been an Oakland Raiders and Baltimore Orioles fan since the early '70s. You want to talk about heartbreaking teams?

I always liked the Browns. They lost the greatest game I've ever watched thanks to John Elway. I liked Bernie Kosar. I loved the Dawg Pound. I made it a point to watch their games whenever they were televised. And I cringed more than a little when we stole the team from Cleveland.

I don't know what the problem is (I know it's Al Davis for the Raiders and Peter Angelos for the O's). The fan base is there in Cleveland. They shouldn't suck as badly as they do.

The problem is you cant fire a bad owner. Randy Lerner (owner of the browns) is more interested in his soccer team. He has tried repeatedly to hire someone to oversee team buisness, but he's a bargain hunter and it always ends up being a person who is not qualified for the job.

I was going to say that Cail was close to the mark, but I knew nothing of Randy Lerner. My time in Cleveland dates back to the days when his dad and the traitor Modell owned the original Browns who played in the Mistake by the Lake (oh, what a send-off we gave her to benefit the RRHOF+M...) and the first couple years of the new Browns in the new stadium. Went west almost ten years ago, but still agonize over the state of the Browns and the Tribe.

Why Cleveland cannot produce a competent local owner for this storied franchise is a frustrating story that hopefully will get a satisfactory resolution. L.A. has had its chance more than once and does not deserve a football team -- certainly not the Browns or the Raiders. The Rams...well, maybe they deserve each other!
