Demondim?

Post by hyarmion »

Has anyone systemically analyzed and collated all the various bits thru-out all the Chronicles regarding the Demondim?
IIRC the evolution (if that is the word) was Viles -> Demondin -> Demondim spawn (i.e. ur-viles & waynhim). Again IIRC, the Viles were non-corporeal beings (i.e. bodiless) prompting the obvious question: Were/are the Ravers Viles? Again, IIRC the Ravers had quite a bit to do with the development of the the Demondim and the Demondim spawn?
Has anyone sat down and brought all the bits together and developed a systematic history of the 'evolution' of the Demondim?

There may be threads somewhere dealing with the Viles, and other dark lore, but I don't know.

The Sandgorgons should be in the list as well. Now that Vain and Nom have voices perhaps we'll just have to wait for the next two books to reveal the origin of their species.

IMHO, Ravers and Viles are separate beings/species altogether. The ravers seen to have no power themselves except that of possession. The Viles are described as puissant beings, and the fashioning of the demondim seems to suggest this is the case.

The passage in FR in which LA is, 'captured' by the Viles suggests that the Ravers interactions leading to the creation of the Demondim was not one in which an ex-Vile become Raver was involved, rather just a straight forward corruption of the Vile's thinking. From RC (in TC disguise) we see that a similar corruption lead to the creation of the Demondim spawn.

*Interesting fact, IMHO, the ur-viles were the only species in this chain that retained the knowledge to create copies of themselves as well as the lore to explore other forms. Result: Vain*
If we all follow Berek's code of warriors then the world would be full of the worst warriors imaginable.
