Spartacus: Blood and Sand

Post by [Syl] »

My god, what a horrible show. Bad acting, worse effects, and it managed to rip off both 300 (which is sad all by itself) and Gladiator within the first ten minutes, which was all I could stand. And that knowing that Lucy Lawless is supposed to appear naked eventually.
"It is not the literal past that rules us, save, possibly, in a biological sense. It is images of the past. Each new historical era mirrors itself in the picture and active mythology of its past or of a past borrowed from other cultures. It tests its sense of identity, of regress or new achievement against that past.”

Do we really need to see Lucy Lawless in her birthday suit?

I forgot all about this show, though I was excited to check it out. I think I'll dump my expectations before I see this...

Gratuitous blood aside, this show turned out to be quite good. Season One has just concluded, but Season two is on indefinite hold because Andy Whitfield, who plays Spartacus, has been diagnosed with non-Hodgkin's lymphoma and has started treatment.

Spartacus - Blood and Sand

did the rest of you in the 3rd world (other places not referred to as New Zealand) get to see this? I recorded the entire series then watched them all in about 2 days and I thought it was awesome !! I especially like the concept of "Kill them all" - it''s almost as good as "this day all gods die"

Excellent. I am considering purchasing the Season on DVD... are they making more? I heard that the lead was diagnosed with leukemia?

After seeing this series, I'm going to have to go with 'Yes! OMG, yes!!"

Read the other day, they are making a 6-episode prequel to the first season. Lucy Lawless has some hot girl-on-girl action... my DVR is cleared and ready... not sure when it airs yet :)

I've only seen parts of different episodes. Somehow I manage to miss all those naked Lucy Lawless scenes everyone's talking about. However I do manage to see loads of naked slave girls, massive amounts of blood and piles of limbs...all in super slow motion. Pretty bad acting, but it is what it is. Gladiators kicking ass and Roman orgies. Fun to watch after a few beers, but nothing I look forward to. Maybe I'll give it a serious go from the beginning some weekend.

btw, Lucy Lawless does look pretty damn good.
