Chaos and Order
it has some gut-wrenching and some touching moments; like when Angus' codes are given to Nick; or Sib Mackern's death, to name but a few
I like it very much
not that the other 4 are not great

C&O is my favorite too, Amani. I especially like the sequence when Angus is freed from his codes. Vector telling what he wants to do, now that Trumpet can choose where to go. Angus's trip outside the grounded Trumpet, with his cannon and singularity grenade. Trumpet's dash at the UMC listening post despite all odds. The first time we see the words "Give this to Davies Hyland." Nick looming up in singleminded madness on Sorus's battered command deck.

Each of those scenes gives me the feeling of absolute rightness.

I've said it before, I love the setting of the asteroid swarm. Add to that the explosion of the Lab, the way he describes it lighting up the swarm, is awesome.

The evolution of Trumpet's image, from an impressive, compact weapon of destruction at the beginning of the book, to a chick scuttling away under Punisher's wing at the end.

C&O, for many, many reasons, and TRS, for no real reason at all.

I agree w/C&O but it would prob b a in tie w/TDAGD as SRDs style got better and better with each book and when u finally get to Gods you can't put it down. Period!

I think I must have read TDAGD in no more than two sittings. I couldn't take my eyes off it. But (and I actually don't remember if this was in ADAHGA or C&O - I've only read them once.) my absolute favorite part was when Trumpet came screaming out of the asteroid field (also can't remember it's name  ) broadcasting the formula for the anti-mutagen. That was breathtaking!! 8O 8O :R :R

Another great scene, for sure!

Vector:
"We don't need much time to make sure Valdor hears that message. Then we've won. It won't matter if Soar gets us. It won't even matter if Calm Horizons herself comes after us. VI will know about the immunity drug.

"Humankind will finally have a defense that works."
The last 20 pages doesn't even leave you room to breathe.

well, I also think that every book in The Gap is better than the one before it, so I'd have to say the last one...which I think is TDAGD...

A Dark and Hungy God Arises

Post by Angus Thermopyle »

Hmmm, this is a tough one...but I gotta go with ADAHGA here. I like the fact that no one character really had a dominating presence.

Angus was powerful, but kept in check by Milos. Milos had no real power and some shaky alliances. Nick is compromised, but very dangerous. The Bill is powerful too, but hindered by ignorance. Sorus has a ship and the Bill's blessing, but has to worry about Nick. And even Marc has to respect the Bill by not forcibly taking Davies.

I just found it very intriguing how Donaldson set this situation up and I tore though the pages to see how it would end. Masterfully done.

After reading HUNGRY GOD the first time, I was so breathless that it was all I could think or talk about. The whole thing is so powerful: the story, the pace, the emotions, the visuals, the people and their character changes, the stunning writing. The knock-out plot twist. Liete Corregio's own personal caamora.

Yes C&O is definitely my favourite.

The whole asteroid sequence is stunning. To me it was like, should I read or breathe, read or breathe, no I better read and breathe...soo great...

My favourite is the last book. The Day All Gods Die. The whole book was really exciting and ran excellently. I didn't think the third and forth books had this. Because I thought that there were times that the stories were a bit slow in ADAHGA and C&O.

Hi, Darth. :-) To me the political scenes run slowly, the meetings of the people who like to pretend they run the planet. Lots of hot air and silliness.

Chaos & Order. I don't think I blinked once during the last fifty pages, and while I must have remembered to breathe, I don't recall doing so. 'Wow' is a deeply inadequate word, but I've never been much of a poet.

"The Real Story" and "This Day All Gods Must Die" were the best. "Forbidden Knowledge" is a close second (third?), but books 3 and 4 did littel for me. I felt that they really should have been edited to make one book for a 4 book series....

I think that reading the books in the order that I did (4, 3, 1, 2, 5) definitely gave me a very different perspective on the series.

You know who just stuck me as a great Sorus? The newcomer (well not that new to Candaian filmgoers) Deborah Kara Unger (White Noise/The Salton Sea/Payback) she has a way of looking like Peta (Nikita) Wilson on very good steriods Image
