Hello, Newbs!

Post by Worm of Despite »

Welcome to the Watch! Bwa ha ha ha! :evilfoul: I am your greeter, the inestimably lovely and insidiously despicable Lord Foul. You can become a groveler now, if you want. I would, if I were before such suzerainty!

But really, since you're here--welcome to Kevin's Watch!

It's a friendly place full of fantasy fans of the Thomas Covenant books (if you don't know those, don't worry; we'll assimilate you soon), though we also discuss music, movies, politics, religion and anything between.

The greatest thing about this message board is that even the most reprehensible members are pretty darn friendly. Everyone here is on some kind of Utopia drug or something. You'll never feel out of place or competing for notice. Your first post may as well be your 9,000th!

Just a few rules, while using KW:

1. Remember to eat.
2. There's an outside world.
3. The opposite sex (or same sex, depending on your inclinations) can be fun.

So there you go. Enjoy, and let your personality flourish.

Be Welcome to the Watch, newbies.
Be Well Come and True.

I'm your cohost of this forum, Menolly. And with such a name, I would like to point out that in addition to the various topics LF mentioned above, we also discuss other fictional works. Science fiction or fantasy works other than those by SRD are discussed in the General Fantasy/Sci-Fi Discussion forum, whereas other works are discussed in The Library. There are a few exceptions: George R. R. Martin and Stephen Erickson (although it is more a Malazan sub-forum, since Esselmont's books are discussed there as well) each have their own sub-forums in the Library instead of in General Fantasy/Sci-Fi.

Also come check out Gravin Threndor, if you're in to role playing games. We have the standard DnD- and White Wolf- style games, as well as one based on Rogue Trader. And then there are the deity games, a unique concept to the Watch (I think).

For anyone who may not be used to message boards, the blue text above are each links directly to the forums/sub-forums mentioned. Feel free to ask questions regarding our community and how to get around; someone, and I am sure not always necessarily my cohost nor myself, will be happy to guide you.

Welcome. Well Come indeed!

I figure if the Newbs can meet me--stand before my cold, towering ire and crawl around on my furry underbelly--then everything after is a nice downhill ride.

Get the Foul experience over, I say.

But yes, Newbs. Come before my altar now and offer your questions, your fears; your meat or vegetable offerings.

I am warm and embracing...come to me.

I'd like to be the chaos mod.
random mod powers occur, I flap my butterfly wings, and no one knows in advance if it's just a lucky beautiful fly-by, or nearby threads destroyed by category 5 windbags sweeping all aside in off-topic epic rants and tirades.

I find it amusing that not one newb has yet posted here. your summoning ritual failed, LF. Apparently your Drool[ing] Followorms have yet to find the Illearth Post.

Interesting, you using the Dread Poet Jethro's favorite word. I knew you'd slip up sooner or later.

I must admit to a similar sudden dread...

Still, there's always the Staff of Law. Otherwise known as...the Ban Stick!

Wow, I didn't even know yaks roared. I learn something new every day here. Anyway, I think you would come off as less curmudgeonly if you developed a nice, welcoming catch phrase like Menolly's "Be well come and true", or My very own "Welcome to the Watch; smoke 'em if you got 'em!"

___ wrote: Dread Poet Jethro's favorite word
A quick scan of occurences of the word "curmudgeon" reveals it has been used (in an original context) twelve times on the Watch. Five of these were by matrixman, once each by A Gunslinger, aliantha, Brasidas, Brother Charn, danlo, Dread Poet Jethro and myself.

The logical extension of what you are implying is that matrixman is really one or more of these other folks. I know I am not matrixman...but I'll hold out hope that he is one or more of the others. He is missed!
