First Matrix. Cause I liked it best? The whole look and feel of the film was ground breaking. The mysticism was cool and fresh in its own way. The sequels were dazzling but didn't effect me the same way.

I go with the 1st also. In addition to what HM said, it was more complete. It didn't leave as many loose ends as the others, and could have stood on its own.

The first one......for the same reasons Fist listed but I didnt mind the second one either.....car chase scenes and black shiny pantsuits and sunnies were cool :P

Matrix 1... It was just more...new, I suppose. The sequels were breathtaking, but I was expecting them to be, whereas the first Matrix was a complete mystery

I prefer the first one - a tighter film. However, I like the Merovingian alot (is that obvious?), so number 2 isnt bad.

I've only seen #3 once, so hard to say for sure, but I like them in order. And yeah, "tighter" is a good way of putting it.

The Matrix had a whole different atmosphere to the other two films - far, far better.
