Question about Ranyhyn and the Sunbane

Post by KrillLight »

Hi folks, :D
I am a new member here and excited to be able to share with you
the passion and wonder that the Chronicles of TC have brought to my
life.

anyway...If the sunbanes influence stopped at Landsdrop, and was a
corruption of the Earthpower which was restricted to the upper land, how could the Ranyhyn be safe even in the southron Range?

Just wondered what your thoughts were...

Well the Southron ranges are beyond Landsdrop .. I realise they are just beyond .. but I think it is sufficient .. the sunbanes scope was limited to its range.

But more interestingly the last we heard of the raynhin and the Ramen .. Bannor was heading off with them to safer climes .. did they specify where they intended to go? I would think even if they did remain in the Southron ranges in the end of the 1st chrons .. that the generations that passed between the 2 series .. could have seen the raynhin relocating far beyond the Southron ranges to who knows where??

that is my hope anyway .. that they did re-locate and that the raynhin and the Ramen have retained their lore and we will hear of them again if there is a 3rd chrons in my life time.

Welcome KrillLight!
First off, Ranhyn were very powerful w/the Earthpower, we all know that. Secondly, Im not sure they escaped to the South Range.....but even if they did, the Sunbane probably hadnt even expanded that far, anyway.

oh yes you are right!!

.. the Southron ranges and wastes are west not east of Landsdrop   .. does anyone remember how far south the sunbane extended??

Well there only hope then would be if they had escaped beyond the reach of the Sunbane .. and presumably they did this long before the Sunbane appeared .. with a little luck.

Somewhere in the 2nd trilogy( I think the Wounded Land, during the soothtell with the clave, TC is given a vision of the Rahynyn sensing the sunbanes' first ill touch and fleeing far south to escape its' reach. Of course, the Ramen followed, unknowingly saving themselves. I can't wait to see their return. :) :D

Oops! You said cite! sorry! Quote-"He 'TC' understood what had become of the Ranyhyn, the great horses, and of the Ramen who served them. Perceiving the ill of the Sunbane in its' earliest appearances, both Ranyhyn and Ramen had simply fled the Land, sojourning south along the marge of the Sunbirth Sea in search of safer grasslands" They'll be back!

Will they though? Will they? Maybe they extended farther south of the Wastes, therefore finding a new, maybe better Land. Either that or they went too far south to sense the end of the Sunbane....all speculation of course :)

... one would think if TC received this intelligence via a soothtell .. that -> the raynhin
Perceiving the ill of the Sunbane in its' earliest appearances ... [they] fled the Land ... in search of safer grasslands
.

If the raynhin had the percipience to sense the ill coming .. presumably they would have moved far beyond its reach!! I believe they did!! ... and that they did survive with their customs and lore in tact. I think we will see them again .. and they maybe the only races left in the Land in any significant number besides the Haruchai (whose numbers surely have dwindled- after generations of feeding the sunbane itself) .. who actually remember the old ways of the inhabitants of the Land. Not that the Ramen were overly friendly folk .. their love and respect of the raynhin and their devotion to the Land .. would be qualities in great demand after the destruction of the sunbane.

Well, its not exactly hard to see the ill of the Sunbane, even in its early stages. So they left to find a better Land, I woulda done that if I saw the Sunbane.

ahhh .. possess the keeness and acute sensitivity of an animal??

I think they probably sensed the coming of ill .. long before it became ill ..

like horses and birds can sense the coming of a change in the weather .. or a storm .. you know that kind of high level 'pin point' acuity found in many of the animal world ..

yeah maybe it would have been easy to 'see ill of the sunbane' if your an outsider looking in .. but the inhabitants of the Land were 'a significant number' :P .. and they didnt percieve its ill .. presumably they were given time to be conditioned to its presence ..

The Raynhin and the Ramen .. acutely perceived the ill <like sensing some ill omen in the air> .. that was coming .. but not there yet I imagine .. and expeditously got as far away as they could from that perceived ill ..

Well said, Sky. I concur! One thing you said, however that I'm not sure of- The Haruchai and their numbers dwindling due to the Sunbane. Bannor or Brinn told TC that they are a prolific people.( I can't recall who or where) and they came to oppose the sunbane first in groups of 5 , then 10, then a score and finally 100. Their blood was so potent (in feeding the Sunbane) that 1 was like throwing a log on the fire whereas other people of the land was like a stick in the banefire. My point being that I just don't think that a lot of the Haruchai were sacrificed and there are a heck of a lot of them remaining to defend the Land (and Revelstone in particular) as TC asked them to do in WGW. TC said "Here's something that won't fail you." They said "We will do it." A new topic, I guess, but we all know that a vow spoken by the Haruchai is no small thing :)

Thankyou Drummond .. you are right about the Haruchai .. I am sure .. that they are still a prolific people .. I dont know how many were lost to the sunbane .. But yes logic would dictate that there would still be a strong presence of them.

I think I had that warning of Bannor's to TC to save his people slightly out of balance in my mind ..
