Sonnenfeld to Direct "Metal Men" for DC

Post by Hashi Lebwohl »

A link to the article is here; it appears to be accurate.

The problem, of course, is that the Metal Men are almost unheard-of by those who are not comic book enthusiasts. I know who they are, of course, and even went out of my way to find every issue in which they guest-starred because I could never find more than 4 or 5 copies of their self-titled series.

Of all the characters/series to adapt, though, they chose Metal Men? erm....ok. I would have gone with Suicide Squad--which would make for a wonderfully gritty superhero-type movie along the lines of Sin City--or even Doom Patrol, but not Metal Men. *shrug*

Not even Lex Luthor's robots/andriods and skill at artificial intelligence programming was as advanced as Dr. Magnus'. Luthor once also converted all the Metal Men into Kryptonite.

Anyway...we'll have to see if this project actually makes it all the way to release. Sonnenfeld has done a good job with MiB in the past.

Tin was in the original series but when they resurrected it in the 80s I don't think they included him, for whatever reason.

I don't recall any Nameless, but I had those books a long time ago. From time to time, I really regret letting go of the vast majority of my collection--I spent years and probably thousands of dollars creating it. *sigh*

The Metal Men had separate stories in the first 7 or 8 issues of the latest Doom Patrol series; one of my favorite artists, Kevin Maguire, drew it.

A second female robot (created by Tin) was introduced in issue #13 (April-May 1965), and she was later (issue #15, August-September 1965) christened as "Nameless", last appearing in issue #32.
