Plothole?

Post by Blue_Spawn »

Don't know if this has been brought up or not, but I was wondering if there was an explanation as to why people from Earth (the "real world") are able to understand habitants of the Land? Do they share a common language? I think it would be silly if people of the Land spoke English :/

This is just one of those unavoidable things you have to accept. Either the people of the land speak english, or something happens to the people from our world to enable them to understand.

It was all just 1 big mind-meld! It's just that the Lords and the Haruchai had deeper mind-melds. No wait!!! It's all just a dream! Yeah, that's the ticket...! :D

That's easy for you to say danlo! Your namesake is from a different book! But me--Lord Foul--I can't accept my whole centuries of existence a mere dream!

I'm cool with the cross dimensional language understanding deal. There was clearly a language of the land. An ancient tongue so to speak and yet TC and the people of the Land undertood each other just fine. Perhaps is has to do with the Creator being very familar with the Real world and fashioning things with that in mind. :-)

Dromond, I think the point is that Covenant and the people of the Land spoke the same language. When I told the Church Lady about this, she said, "How convenient!"

Well if they have reverance of White Gold and can recognize it when they see it, yet it doesn't exist there. I have no trouble seeing why they can't speak a common Language with Us.

PLus hey we speak it and who knows maybe if someone from another land came here they would wonder how we speak their language.

Maybe the Land is a FUTURE existence of the current Earth and Bill Gates just has not unmasked himself as Lord Foul yet. OOPS did I let that slip out ?

But I think SRD will address that in CHRON III TC:2
Yes I guess we can all just get along !

I think Fangthane is correct. I hadn't considered it from that angle before.

I do think that it's just one of those things that need to be accepted, and not overly scrutinized.

But if you do look at it, it goes deeper. There are other languages than the one that the inhabitants of the Land speak. But Covenant and Linden seem to only understand that one. The wayhnim and urviles, for example, the Elohim (although Linden's percipience seemed to crack that one - even when the Giants gift of languages could not), and the Bhrathair.

But if the Creator could translate people from this world into that world, it wouldn't be too far of a stretch to assume he gives them the ability to understand at least one of the languages in the process.

Hehe, I didn't really meant this to be such a far fetched discussion, just something to think about.

You guys over analyzed it :P

Isn't that the point of discussion boards? Pick a topic then analyse every last detail until we've taken all the fun out of it?

I don't know, Foul. Fangthane has a certain lilt that is, perhaps, impossible to duplicate.
