Megamultispam of THINGIES

Post by Frostheart Grueburn »

Let's try to make this board a bit livelier (So don't hop over this post?), significant portions of it have turned into Worm-gnawed voids.
Thanks to Vain for hammering some positive thoughts into this thick, pessimistic skull.

TLD dissections have begun. One neither needs to possess a MA in English nor slobber and drool starry-eyed over the book to discuss aspects of it. So go and say something. The present inactivity does not bode well for the following chapters. :(

Effy attempted to start GAP group readings/dissections last winter. Considering the terrible situation in Ukraine, it would be a nice gesture from the board to continue something she began.

We have a shop, which was put together with much rush. The original idea was that other members could add their own designs as well, like t-shirts. Regrettably been gathering dust since.

A wiki was setupped some time ago, even announced, but desert sands have invaded its pages as well. WF was kind enough to contribute an article, but we'd need far more group effort to make it flower. Creating an account's easy and you can write about anything from aliantha to Hashi Lebwohl's heart-patterned underpants in a nonstrict style. Please participate!

The gallery has become so empty that even crickets have died of thirst and become mummified. I don't know if any artists exist on this board any longer, but please go and post anything. Begin a discussion about character looks, how busty you think the First is or if Liand plucks his eyebrows, anything to lift that corner up from its present stupor. I'm suffering from a bad artist's block due to a lack of relevant discussion and inspiration gained from collabing as well.

HAAA!!!...so Kevin's Dirt hangs over the Watch....What do you expect when negativity holds such sway with its constant postings?

I agree, the only way to be creative, go forward, is to explore the unknown with Hope rather than dwell in the sink hole of negative. Its amazing to see for how long some posters just continue over and over again to state what they don't see, what they don't get, what they don't believe...Its been months with out one bit of insight, one reflection on unique, one creative thought, and to this day insist on repeating the Dirt here. Like once or twice isn't enough.. Move on to something positive??..its looking like an inability . But of course, its your and mine and the author's fault.
If she withdrew from exaltation, she would be forced to think- And every thought led to fear and contradictions; to dilemmas for which she was unprepared.

Having seen several old faces reappear recently, I have hope that we are undergoing something of a renaissance - or at least, that we can hide how much we have paled in their absence.

I have no artistic skills, nor even a good recipe for Mummified Cricket, but I try to be active and sometimes that's all one can do.

I did threaten to set General Discussion on fire to give the mods something to do, though the emoticon gallery is lacking in the torches-and-pitchforks department. I don't think that's the first time I checked for such things, and I'm not sure what that says about me, but it's probably nothing good.

Edit: I realized you said Gallery and not Galley, but decided to leave it anyway.

Oh, a change is coming, feel these doors now closing

How do we eradicate Kevin's Dirt? :( Post ponies when the mods sleep? Where lurks the Staff of Love?
Unfortunately I'm not expecting to see Effy rallying participants to her own initiatives perhaps for some time. I get no joy whatsoever from doing things alone, so we'd need visible group effort here. Why must it be as cumbrous to come by as hays in a needlestack? :/

Did you see WF's recent infodump on your dissection? I haven't managed to peruse it yet, but perhaps it contains seeds for further discussion or some novel insights? Also I don't know much about surrealism, but I did add something about metaphors into my own response. :)
Could you maybe explain something about the background of the surrealism theory itself to the n00bs and how you interpret the chrons in the light of it?
I'm still recommending a Wagner round, as SRD elucidates its significance relating to TCTC in an interview attached to the first Gap volume. :)

  I shall unchain Longwrath to accompany you on this venture. Perchance that shall awaken them. Remember to spill oil into a few other corners of the Watch as well.

Yumyum mummified cricket. The fire will roast them nice and crisp!

I'm happy to swear at people if that helps :D

Haven't read TLD yet so can't contribute there. It is definitely nice to see a resurgence of old faces - hopefully some will stick around.

I'd be very keen to contribute to a Gap dissection. Bring it on.

If the Aussie arsenal of derogatory oaths contains something more potent than Finnish swearing, bring it on!

Fie and folly, the pages of TLD do not sit ope afore you yet??? *loosens a Giantish stone whip* Hie, hie, lest the world should gasp its final breath ere the effort!

Well, I had talks about Gap dissections with the person in question some months back and ordered a cheap second-hand copy of the 2nd volume for this. Would you be interested in dissecting a chapter yourself or mainly discussing other people's analyses?

That's the stuff, Frosty, keep up the good work!

I visited the wiki a while back. I was sure that I posted something appropriately corrective in relation to some THOOLAH smear, but I can't seem to locate it now

I'm around the Watch a good bit, but I keep on getting sucked into the Sarangrave-esque 'Tank. I'm afraid I'm no use to you in relation to the dissections as the LCs didn't suit me. I mostly talked out my frustrations after the launch of TLD and I wouldn't want to be bringing that sort of energy to the dissections in any case.

In terms of fan-fic and fan-art, as I've said before, I appreciate the effort and creativity that people put into their work, but I can't read/view it as I find it interferes in a big way with how I have imagined things.

I hope to make it to the Elohimfest this summer so that will add a new dimension to my experience here.

It's great to see some of the old members around again and hopefully that will breathe new life into the Watch. If we all do our bit we can raise and sustain the energy and life of this unique place.

It's interesting Uss, I've always viewed and appreciated the Chrons art, and when I actually read it, it has no impact whatsoever on my internal visions of the landscape, the haruchai, the giants, Linden or anyone really. I guess we all process things differently. Even if I wanted my mind to change my view of a character, I don't think it would allow it. So I have no problem viewing and appreciating the incredible artwork here.

Frostie, I'd be happy to dissect a chapter or 2 of the Gap. It's my favourite SRD series.

Hmm, not sure I can compete with the Finnish swearing  but I will try!

Re TLD, still rereading! Up to Runes now, so I might catch the tail end of TLD dissects :)

Hey! My boxers were supposed to be a secret and now the whole world knows. By the way....the hearts are anatomically accurate.....

Of course.... I could start modeling them for everyone to get some lively discussion going but you really really REALLY don't want that. Trust me.

That is, unless everyone joins in and starts modeling their loincloths but I am uncertain we want to become that sort of site.

As long as we don't become the site where everyone is mottling their undergarments...
Focus on where you are going and why.

There’s a search box in the upper right corner. Type THOOLAH within. :P

Smear? Smear??!!!! About time LA struck back with swords and granite-knuckled gauntlets for the outrageous ignomy we have suffered all these years! “Satan’s butthole”, my arse. Thoolahians also ought to distinguish between the human-based LA and the literal army (for indeed one happens to exist complete with a seasoned warlady), which, incidentally, consists of some the bravest, most steadfast characters of the LC’s. Show me a handful of passages where Rime Coldspray whines, and I acquiesce. Well, Grueburn admitted to moaning oft, but that was a dirty joke shared between her and Latebirth, clearly intended to make fun of Jeremiah’s innocence.
Personally I would migrate to LA just to ogle some gorgeous Giantesses. Poor THOOLAH, no curves, apart from the O-letters in the title.

Hence, after that non-serious tirade, perhaps you could add some more? You could for instance start by praising your favorite gourd in an adequate ode. Any morsel helps. Just recalled one does not even have to own an account to submit (but you do earn some badges, not unlike wgd’s). I categorize and index these later anyway, so no need to worry about the mechanical bits. Also can create stub pages if that proves a hindrance.
Psst. there’s also a category called “Against All Things Linden”. :P

Yeah, other interpretations don’t usually affect my established perception either (For instance marineguy’s Foamy. Or hue’s First.). However, I regard it as a massive drawback that we don’t have more and varied visuals especially of the 3rd chrons characters. I love to see other styles and renderings. For example on another board, I was so excited when a friend of mine painted group shots of some characters, most varied from my own mental images, but the sheer process of creation was so much fun to follow.

Careful, uss, perhaps you should disable image loading on the board since some may have character icons, and throw the book covers away. A wrongly shaped melon may skulk in the undergrowth.:twisted:

Anyway, I’m furthermore deeming we ought to get a sticky for some of the larger fanworks, including stories. The latter suffer from a bad visibility, and FF.net harbors no SRD category either. Music and a fanvideo have become inhumed here somewhere.

StevieG wrote:Frostie, I'd be happy to dissect a chapter or 2 of the Gap. It's my favourite SRD series.
Yay! :-D *looks at the Gap forum* Oh wait, did Foul analyze the first and Effy the second? So much for fastidious observance...anyhow, here’s a preliminary chapter assignment thread, from 2012...sigh. We could setup a non-rigid schedule, spam this around some more and perhaps get a few more chapters assigned. Anyway, the book in question would be Forbidden Knowledge, and chapter 3. How much time do you think you’d need for this? Would you prefer a deadline date set for you? I’ll volunteer for one after my March break if this presently crippled enterprise begins to hobble onwards.

Anyone else in this thread willing to dissect a Forbidden Knowledge chapter? LC antifans ahoy!

That depends on the species in question. If you were to autopsy a My Little Pony, you’d unearth something resembling a pink, heart-shaped marshmallow. What would you expect from creatures that poot rainbow glitter?
Hence, I am not ascertained of the grisliness of your boxers...

I heartily second this. There are few sights more pleasing to the eye than the curves of a Giantess.

I was touched by this appeal and so went to visit Frosty's referenced Wiki. Upon arrival, I noticed that certain articles were - how shall I put it kindly? - a little biased. So I took it upon myself to spend five minutes adding a little balance to one particular entry...

THOOLAH... at your service.
Newsflash: the word "irony" doesn't mean "a bit like iron"

Shockingly, some people have claimed that I'm egocentric... but hey, enough about them

You might want to observe that the more active admin is a member of LA, and that the previous anti-THOOLAH statement did not go as far as to slight the intelligence of the members of that dangerous cult. You might want to return and edit the tone a little bit. ;)

ETA: And some basic wiki rules. Satire is fine, but keep it approximately civil. No Old Tankish behavior.

-No racial or religious slurs
-No attacks towards sexual orientations
-No belittling anyone's intelligence when talking about real people (moron/idiot/so forth)
-Keep swearing moderate

Now go and have fun. I don't much mind if thoolahians create a few more anti-Linden whatsits, but don't overdo it.

Not for a year or so. What's happened to it? Did you discover the Staff of Love?

Fixed it to "Old Tankish behavior" in case it's more accurate.

I was Appointed, which was just the thing it needed. I am wisely going to leave the "Staff of Love" comment alone.

I didn't say it was perfect but there has been improvement. What you really need are some more posters whose opinions more closely mirror you own to help keep things in balance.

Now....what happened to those Giantesses? I was led to believe that there would be Giantesses here....
