Just about damn anything on Pink Floyd's The Wall . . . "Goodbye Cruel World" comes first to mind in that area . . .

Eleanor Rigby is a beautiful but sad song . . .

Hmm . . . What else . . .

It's not a song, but Bach's "Concerto No. 1, In F Major: II. Adagio" strikes me as sad.

Seasons in the Sun, by Terry Jacks, has got to be the #1 depressing song!

(Alone Again) Naturally

All Dead - Queen

A whole mess of Schubert songs.
All lies and jest
Still a man hears what he wants to hear
And disregards the rest
-Paul Simon

Well, once again the ancient danlo shows his age. You know how some songs, like, mark a time in your life that you can snap back to instantly? Well this song does. I can't stand it! But it was the first song I remember from vacationing at the beach when I was 6, or so. See You in September written by Shelley Fabres and made popular by Frankie Valey and the 4 Seasons. I don't know why but it just depresses the living heck o/o me...

The most recent tune that reminds me of this damm song is prob Boys of Summer by Don Hendley...

I'd print the lyrics but it just depresses the hell o/o me...
fall far and well Pilots!

Denial, Revisited by the Offspring. Yes, you did read that correctly. Yes, I did say an Offspring song makes me feel sad. Actually, it makes me cry, every single time I hear it :? Something about the sentiments of the song, and the way they are expressed seems to strike a chord :?

How about something recent...Try Gravedigger by Dave Matthews.
War is an ugly thing, but not the ugliest of things. The decayed and degraded state of moral and patriotic feeling which thinks that nothing is worth war is much worse. The person who has nothing for which he is willing to fight, nothing which is more important than his own personal safety, is a miserable creature and has no chance of being free unless made and kept so by the exertions of better men than himself. Here are just a few songs that bring me to tears...

Streets of Philidelphia- Bruce Springsteen
Wind Beneath My Wings- Bette Midler's version
Vincent- both Don Mclean and Josh Groban's versions
Fly- Celine Dion
I Can Only Imagine- Mercy Me
In the Gloaming- From the HBO short film of the same name
Where you are -Josh Groban
You Raise Me Up- Josh Groban
The Prayer- Josh Groban, Charlette Church and Celine Dion, Andrea Bocili
Music of the Night- Michael Crawford, original London cast recording Phantom of the Opera
All I Ask of You - Original London cast recording Phantom of the Opera

There are more, but that's a start :)
And I believe in you
altho you never asked me too
I will remember you
and what life put you thru.

~fly fly little wing, fly where only angels sing~

~this world was never meant for one as beautiful as you~

...for then I could fly away and be at rest. Sweet rest, Mom. We all love and miss you.

Most songs by Smashing Pumpkins are depressing (Disarm, Eye, etc., etc.), and Alice in Chains too (pretty much anything off "Dirt"). A lot of Pink Floyd is depressing....I mean, look at The Wall itself.

I've said it before, but to me "Cat's in the Cradle" is the saddest song ever.

Ah, yes, B&B. Harry Chapin. 'Cat's in the Cradle.'
'Taxi', as well. And 'A Better place to be.' 'W.O.L.D.' Good ol' Harry.
Sad, beautiful songs. I miss him.

Heh, I remember being about 14 when me and a couple of friends put together "The Misery Tape."

I wish I still had a copy so I could have a look at the track listing. I know it had Black by Pearl Jam and Unforgiven by Metallica on it though.

The Michael Andrews/Gary Jules version of Mad World is getting a lot of air play at the moment, which is a bit of a downer as it reminds me of the ending to Donnie Darko.

Yeah, Cats in the Cradle is terrible!!! And yet, since become a father, it keeps me focused. (I'm actually signing off right now to go put together some giant Hot Wheels track with Danny. :D)

Matrixman wrote:the Eighties. The music of that decade gets no respect, I tell ya.
For a reason. It would have helped if someone from that period had had a sincere emotion.
Matrixman wrote:I was born the year the Beatles disbanded. How's that for depressing?
A friend told me her son announced to her breathlessly one day, "Mom, did you know Paul McCartney was in a band before Wings?"

I didn't know whether to fall over stunned, or laugh my head off. I compromised and did both. Never was the difference in generations brought home to me so clearly.
Navarino wrote:I remember being about 14 when me and a couple of friends put together "The Misery Tape." ... I know it had Black by Pearl Jam...
To me, Black was the high point of Pearl Jam's career. <Putting on the CD> :)

Reminds me of Alan Partridge:
Who's Wings? They're only the band the Beatles could have been!

Just a couple off the top of my head (and I'm sticking to songs that I like - depressing in a good way, so to speak):

1916 (Motörhead)
The Band Played 'Waltzing Matilda' (the Pogues / Eric Bogle)
Don't Let Daddy Kiss Me (Motörhead)
Jesus Doesn't Want Me For a Sunbeam (the Vaselines / Nirvana)
The Lonesome Death of Hattie Carroll (Bob Dylan)
Sad Songs and Waltzes (Willie Nelson)
Sad Vacation (Johnny Thunders)
