Trending on the Watch - What's New & What's Hot!

Post by ussusimiel »

Okay, I'm going to try this since I suggested it. So here goes!

This is a thread where you can highlight what's active and new on the Watch. It can also be a place to link to post that you think is really good, or something funny, or bump an old favourite.

The idea is that you quote the previous post (which should already have some quoted items in it) and add your own to the top. When the embedded quotes become unwieldy we'll just start another one.

I'll do a few to get us started.

Sorry, but using nested quotes is a terrible idea.

Fair enough, probably makes it look like a Mallory's game  I haven't tried something like this before, so I'm open to suggestions. Do you think that plain text would be better? I'm looking for a way to do it that is a bit visually interesting, and that is also straight-forward so that anyone can join in.

Plain text would be a bit boring to my eye. A single quote would be a bit better, but still lacking something:

This is not bad, but is still a bit too static for what I hoping:
[Syl] is back!

Ayn Rand's Harry Potter - Funny spoof. Harry Potter + the ideas of Ayn Rand 8O

Work in Progress - New thread. Let us know what writing projects you are working on.

Israeli Politics - The conflict in Gaza continues to cause heated debate.

"The Island of Sungrace" - New piece of Chrons fan-fiction by Mighara Sovmadhi.
Help!

you can arrange it like Bruno does in his In order Aus show. You can get us to say horrible things at your whim just like he does. Just offer to put us on tv and we'll do anything.

She's only in it for the door prize. She'll be back among the right-thinking people soon enough. ;)

We'll take them any way we can!

Once they come through the door many find they are reluctant to leave.

They feel guilty but they like it!

They like it!

I don't think the constant repetition is really necessary. What's the cut off on that, by the way? When does an item on the list cease to be new or hot, and stop being pasted?

Might as well just let people post things singly, and for relevance just viewing the most recent posts in the topic suffices.

I suppose my idea is to have a kind of regularly updated news item that contains all the stuff currently new and active. I was thinking of starting a new one weekly (or sooner if the activity levels were high enough). It's basically a slightly more permanant version of the 'New posts' feature on the Home page, with the additional flexibility for people to highlight what they think are valuable but currently inactive threads.

My main idea was to encourage people to check out stuff that they might usually ignore. I'll keep it going for a short while and if it isn't serving any function I'll just let it sit.
