Go Topless Day

Post by Cheval »

From an AOL newsfeed today:

"Aug. 24 marks Go Topless Day, a 24-hour period where women (and men) are encouraged to bare their upper bodies in order to protest hypocritical laws
that force women to cover their breasts while allowing men to walk around with no shirts.

This year marks the seventh anniversary of the pro-breast protest, organized by a group of UFO believers called the Raelians.

Members believe that humans were created by advanced extraterrestrial scientists known as the "Elohim", and that not allowing women to go topless is an insult to the aliens' artistry.

This year, rallies are planned in 54 cities around the world, including Los Angeles, San Francisco, New York, Chicago, Denver, Miami and Washington, D.C."

It seems SRD has a bigger infuence than we thought! :D
Have you hugged your arghule today?

Back in Boston in the mid 90s every Wednesday was WoW day, aka "Whip em Out Wednesday", where ladies were encouraged to flash their boobs at any and every one they could on the morning and evening commutes.

Those were the days...

On the flipside of this- women get to wear fucking sundresses to work while performing the exact same job at which men are forced to wear suits.

Some women just don't need to wear sundresses. But it's still BS, even for he hotties.

And we sit in the office freezing to death, because the A/C is cranked up to accommodate the guys who insist on wearing a shirt, tie, and jacket indoors when it's 95 degrees out.

I gave up on sundresses years ago, but I can't even wear sandals at work anymore -- the A/C is cranked up so high that my feet freeze. 8O

It's generally less of an issue outside of the US though. We seem to make a much bigger deal of it, and put much bigger legal penalties on it than many other countries.

I was about to leave on vacation and came in to the office in a nice Polo and kacki shorts, I was only going to be in for a couple of hours. I was asked to leave and come back dressed "appropriately". Wearing a suit in a legal office as an attorney is not optional around here.

I'm generally dieing of heat prostration while my assistant has a heater running under her desk. I've got a small fan in my office in an effort to compensate. I suspect we're cancelling each other out.

More than likely, SS.

Travelin' Guy would not last ten minutes in your office. He often rides his bike to work, and I've kidded him more than once about how he looks like a bike messenger instead of one of the guys who owns the place. (And then he parks his bike in his office, and leaves his wet towel on the furniture after he's showered at the gym and changed into his lawyer clothes.... We've also joked about how he should install a curtain or a screen halfway across his office, so he can hide all the spare clothes and shoes when guests come by. )

I'm jealous. I'd love to work completely casually.

So would I. They won't let us wear jeans & t-shirts, or I'd do it every day. :(

Perhaps we could combine the two and talk about the benefits/detriments of going topless at work?
