Back by popular (or maybe not so popular) demand (and with Av's permission now that he's had a birthday.

) :
*drum roll please*
Our newest Age poll!

I'm in, but the answer will change in six months. Yesterday was an occasion to which I'd paid no attention for several decades: a half-birthday. Sure, they are significant when you are young (think Lily Tomlin's Edith Anne), but what adult notices half-birthdays?
It's due to a peculiarity in US tax law. I finally hit the age where I can touch my retirement savings without incurring a 10% penalty. Not that I plan to start drawing it down right away, but having the option to pull the trigger is liberating, somehow.
Now, to get Dam-et graduated from university and launched on an independent life. Getting Menolly's health concerns under control would help too. Then Dam-sel and I can figure out a path to supporting the three of us without me working full time with a three-hour daily commute.
ITOFTS!
(I'm too old for this...stuff)

Oh well, don't have to worry for another 9 years...
(Stickied this one, unstickied the old one.)

Ascended through a couple of brackets since joining, entering in the middle of one and now, more than a decade later, sitting near the bottom of another. I guess I can get comfortable and settle in for a while.

Heh. My 53rd birthday is next month. 50 something doesn't feel or look old to me. Maybe when I reach 85 like my mom I might think of myself that way but she doesn't so probably not.

I love ageing actually and I don't feel any different. Retirement has been the best thing though for me... I left as a desk jockey - predominantly sedentary but now with the property to work on each day Ive lost unhealthy weight and feel great. Like your wife Ive battled chronic pain following an injury I sustained and the last few years of my job I was taking heaps of medication just to keep working lol
Ive weened myself off almost everything now (from 8+ 2 x daily) to one (1 x daily). Postural hypertension was a big issue - its less of an issue now.
I'm much happier working for myself and with animals and outdoors than sitting in an office with artificial light. Don't have any of the stressors anymore either.. I highly recommend it ..

Meh, indoor work with no heavy lifting suits me a bit better I think.
