The Crown

Post by MsMary »

I've recently started watching this series about Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip and the events surrounding their lives.

It does seem very odd to be watching a fictionalized story of royalty who are still alive, and I've found it interesting to explore how the facts differ from the fictionalized account.

Of course, the imagined personal conversations among members of the royal family are pure fiction, as we can never know what they've said privately unless they choose to make it public.

Still, an interesting show, and I think Claire Foy and Matt Smith are very good as the young Queen and Prince.

Agreed. We've enjoyed "The Crown" and we're caught up through Season 2.

I have to admit I'm fascinated by the royals. After Season 2, I've done additional reading, especially about the Duke of Windsor.

We also enjoyed "Victoria," so check that out if you haven't already. Season 2 is about to drop on PBS sometime soon.

Yes, Sunday night.

Because I watched The Crown and Victoria, Netflix is recommending a bunch of other things about the Royal Family. Not that I'm a big Royal watcher or anything. ;)

But I did watch two documentaries. One was about Prince Philip's background and how his uncle Lord Mountbatten was aiming for Philip to become Queen Elizabeth's husband from early on.

The other was the documentary made for Queen Elizabeth's 90th birthday. Apparently the family has piles of home movies accumulated over the years and Prince Charles went through them and selected some to make public, and watched them with various members of the family commenting on them.

It was an interesting insight into the family.

I'm still amused at all the royal children I saw rolling down grassy hills in many of the videos. They were joking that rolling down hills was a family trait. Or something like that. ;)
