Just started watching this .. its very gritty .. brilliant indeed. Set in 1600s England with King James I on the throne .. during a time of great religious upheaval .. with tensions between protestantism and catholicism.

The punitive licenses these early believers took against their enemies is truly horrendous .. I sit watching thinking what manner of humans are these? That they would subject such horrors to their own kindred community members. And I cant help but think why? Why torture and cause such horrendous suffering to fellow believers in your one god?

Its a pretty powerful show .. liking it so far despite all that
