Remake of Willy Wonka and the Chocalate Factory:your thought

Post by Baradakas »

So Willy Wonka is in the "works". Haven't I already seen this movie? Yeah, but now the remake will be directed by Tim Burton, and the rumors state that Mr. Wonka will be played by none other than Johnny Depp.

Do you think this movie should be remade? I loved the first one, and to be honest it seems a bit sacreligious to me.

I think Tim Burton is too eccentric a director; it would be silly.

There is only one Gene Wilder. I wish they got somebody absolutely likeable and funny like Adam Sandler or Nicholas Cage, to do Willy. Even then, there's no reason for a remake.

We'll see, but I don't trust Burton after Planet of the Apes.

I don't see the point of a remake. :?

Where on earth do the Oompa Loompas come from? I voted that a remake would be interesting. That is not an endorsement of a remake. It just means it would be interesting. Deliberately odd films generally leave me feeling disoriented and light headed. :D My wife is the biggest Willy Wonka fan I've ever known so I've watched our tape about a million times and each time I watch it I wonder how anyone could be so unconcerned about the fate of the children (no matter how foul their personalities may be). I'm just kidding of course. If burton does a remake I'm afraid we'll see in graphic detail how the blue berry girl would expand and then explode all over the screen. Yuck. :D

I think it will be good, though I do hope he has more success with this than his most recent remake. Not that Apes was bad (seriously, have you guys seen the other Apes movies?), just that it wasn't exactly inspired.

If you guys haven't seen Big Fish, you're missing out. It was a great story presented by one of the greatest fantasy directors in the business.

Naysaying this movie in advance, imo, is like saying The Last Chronicles are going to suck because you can't touch the originals.

Then again, Willy Wonka never really did anything for me, even as a kid. As an adult, I didn't find it compelling enough to sit through the commercials. I thought it was ok, but it wasn't one of those movies that stuck with me.

I've also heard varying accounts saying that the movie and book vary as greatly as the titles do, and I'd think if Burton tried to maintain the accuracy as evinced by the new title (this time around, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory) that would be a welcome thing.

That was your best post ever, Fist. It is an amazing sociological statement that your first "boo" and your second "boo" both contain the same number of letters and exclamation marks. Classic. Baroque.

Yes Adam Sandler's funny!

However I think he'd just be wrong for the part....

And honestly, while I liked some parts, I found Big Fish to be a bit disappointing....

I think a new Willy Wonka movie would be very interesting. I just hope it won't take away from the first one.
