SRD Coming Here?

Post by Worm of Despite »

Some folks I noticed wanted SRD to maybe come here and such, etc. Well, I think I have a bit of a finger on the author pulse, and I think maybe--just a maybe--it'd be his wish *not* to come. Stanley Kubrick loved for his movies to be hard to understand and their meaning mysterious (2001, anyone? Well, maybe it was mysterious to me and I was too dumb at the time to understand its meaning...heh). But anyway, maybe that's the way SRD wants his art, too? I'm thinking, too, that he'd be really surprised by all our observations--either thinking they're overcomplicating the book or either uncovering stuff that he never even thought of. Some authors are like that--that they find out stuff about their books they never even knew, due to their astute readers!

I dunno, but, for me, personally, I'd rather endlessly discuss the Chronicles (fun!) than have SRD actually dispel all our observations with his all-knowing, fatal swoop. Just my way of looking at it, anyway!

But, OKAY, the basic question is: might he really come :?: We has us an SRD insider, yesss, preciouss? What's the status quo? I know I read at least once in the past a person saying he/she could contact him/get him to pay a visit here, somehow. I mean, not many SRD message boards as good as this one--if not, the only good one!

Simple human curiosity might bring him here, but I've always heard that he's sort of shy and reclusive, so maybe not. |T

I'm 100% for Mr. Donaldson posting here. I wouldn't waste my nor his time in asking about his previous works in the series. My only question would be if book 7 is being written and when it would be available.
He may be a little reclusive and enjoys being out of the spotlight, but he's not the Unibomber. Any writer writes because they have a tale to share..

SRD appears to be a very busybody and a private person! But that would be awesome if he decided to take a look at the board... even if it was just a quick looksy! Ya never know! :D

I figure SRD probably doesn't surf the internet too much so an appearance is not expected. We'd probably ask 21 questions to verify identity at any rate ;)

every now and then there'll be some great post from an anonymous guest that just blows me away with its insight into one of the characters or into the Land, and I start to wonder... 8O

Vain, you crack me up!
But if he does come here, who says that he's going to be anonymous? He could be anyone!
My guess is that he probably does use the internet. It's the easiest way to do research these days. If he's as shy as people are saying, though, he might not come to forums about his books.

Doesn't Danlo know someone who...

Post by Hearthcoal »

...knows someone who knows someone who plays bridge with SRD?

Actually, what I really wanted to comment on was Lord Foul's comment back in Oct.
Some folks I noticed wanted SRD to maybe come here and such, etc. Well, I think I have a bit of a finger on the author pulse, and I think maybe--just a maybe--it'd be his wish *not* to come. Some authors are like that--that they find out stuff about their books they never even knew, due to their astute readers!
LF got me asking myself: "Why do we think that SRD understands his writing any more than we do?" Of course, maybe we don't think that (which brings up an entire new discussion).

This is a good point ... for all we know he could have just thrown a bunch of scrabble pieces on the floor to determine most of the names .., maybe SRD just wished we'd accept and adore his books for the entertainment value.

But HABD! Where's the fun in that!?!? :P
Do you think I like being this dangerous?

Yes! Before the scrabble pieces were thrown together he had intended to write a series of contemporary mystery stories, I'm quite sure. But since the names wound up becoming so weird, he had to opt for fantasy to make it all sound feasible. Of course, in the future, he eventually did luck out throwing the proper names he had so long ago opted for in the first place. But by then he was so embarrassed at his luck he temporarily hid in shame and changed his name to Reed Stephens.

Well, at least that’s what the “About the Author” thing said...
