Top 5 Albums
We’ve done a handful of “album” threads, but I don’t think we’ve ever really done a top 5. Plus, if we have, it’s always good to make a fresh thread so we can update. Good. I think I got my ass covered.
Anyway, a bit of pre-list banter. Some of these, like Wish You Were Here, are the “perennial favorites“, as I like to call them. They’re the ones I’ve overplayed so much it’s not funny, so I’m kind of turned off to them at the moment. Others, though, like All Things Must Pass, haven’t yet grown stale on me. Banter over; and now here’s my list:
1) Abbey Road, by The Beatles
2) Odyssey and Oracle, by the Zombies
3) Red, by King Crimson
3) Wish You Were Here, by Pink Floyd
5) Houses of the Holy, by Led Zeppelin

I'm sure there has been a similar thread somewhere... I remember Syl complimenting me on including Bad Religion's Stranger Than Fiction (really the only perennial favourite on the list)... Oh well, here are my current top 5. As is ever the case with me, they are susceptible to change at as little as 10 seconds' notice
1 - Stranger Than Fiction ~ Bad Religion
2 - Blackwater Park ~ Opeth
3 - Lateralus ~ Tool
4 - Tubular Bells 2 ~ Mike Oldfield
5 - Wishmaster ~ Nightwish

Cam, there's a fine line between deriding a band and deriding its fans (who are members). Walk it carefully, alright?
Never been able to get a hold of Mr. Bungle, though heard good things. Same for Dillenger Escape Plan. Never got into Lamb of God, and I had to recycle Temples of Boom for lack of interest.

Each new historical era mirrors itself in the picture and active mythology of its past or of a past borrowed from other cultures. It tests its sense of identity, of regress or new achievement against that past.”

Relax man... I wouldn't deride any fans of Tubular bells especially, especially people who are also fans of SRD books...
Dont take what I say the wrong way dude, I mean no ill will. I dont dig threats either man
Anyway, Bungle are easy to get hold of and Dillinger, get into soulseek, wickid peer to peer prog (just make sure you purchase the albums if you like them)

Trust me; I'm relaxed. It was just a cautionary statement. I know pretty much everybody around here, and I've learned some of us take our music preferences very seriously. By all means, though, say whatever you think about a band (within limits of course... wouldn't be good to start trashing a band in a tribute thread or anything), I just don't want to see anybody unintentionally rubbed the wrong way. I'm curious as to what you thought was a threat, though... damn terse medium we call internet... ah well.
Moving onward... soulseek, eh? I've been using k-lite. I take it you'd recommend switching?

All 80's bands MM! Now I understand an earlier post in an other thread.
Actually New Gold Dream has been a fav with me, but it was long ago. Cool...
Here's my Top 5(in no order):
The Beatles White Album
Bryan Ferry - Boys and Girls
The Jimi Hendrix Experience - Electric Ladyland
Joy Division - Closer
The Byrds - The Notorious Byrd Brothers
Well, three 60's and two 80's bands, I, who thought the 80's were gone from my collection...

I admire Electric Ladyland very much, but my favorite Hendryx is his atypical "The Wind Cries Mary".
Almost anything by the Doors.
Suzanne Vega's 99.9
Crash Test Dummies' God Shuffled His Feet
Kate Bush and Laurie Anderson have both done a lot of brilliant stuff, in different ways.
I'd like a best-of collection of Dave Carter/Tracy Grammer. Nearly half their songs I will listen to twice before going on to the next one, whenever I play one of their CDs.
Craig Carothers describes himself as "obsessed with semantics." His CD The Card seems aptly named because it comes in one of those little flat envelopes with a King of Hearts on it -- but then you discover it has all his funny songs on it.
You may get his puns or not, he doesn't point them out. He just likes doing them.

Glad to find another soul here who knows Simple Minds, kasten. New Gold Dream is a treasure.kastenessen wrote:All 80's bands MM! Now I understand an earlier post in an other thread.Actually New Gold Dream has been a fav with me, but it was long ago. Cool...

Doesn't seem like the music of the 80's is much appreciated at the Watch, but I can live with that. Just don't say you like 80's stuff too loudly, kasten, or you'll have Lord Foul on your case.

In no paticular order
Abbey Road - the Beatles
Fragile - NIN
Undertow - Tool
Fumbling towards Ecstasy - Sarah McLachlan
On Every Street - Dire Straits
Ten Summoners Tales - Sting
Momentary Lapse of Reason - Pink Floyd
The Color and the Shape - Foo Fighters
The Bends - Radiohead
Versus - Pearl Jam

I am a child of the eighties, so to speak, and love it all. Goodness, does anyone remember Go West? I am in love with Peter Cox, a voice to make love to, amongst other things no doubt. Duran Duran are playing a sellout tour at the moment. I was never a Duranie though.
The reality is in this head. Mine. I'm the projector at the planetarium, all the closed little universe visible in the circle of that stage is coming out of my mouth, eyes, and sometimes other orifices also.
