I finally broke down and bought the gold edition. I grew up playing the gold box D&D games for the Commedore 64 and the Amiga. This is my first encounter with the third edition D&D rules. Why did I wait so LONG?
I haven't had this much fun on my computer since I discovered pron. I've barely scratched the surface, I'm still in chapter 1 of NWN. IF there's anyone that plays, do you knnow of any good Mods?
Anyhow, my consoles have finally been beat for attention.

Well, I started off with Neverwinter as well, but I found what I consider a MUCH better game: Baldur's Gate II. For only 19 bucks you can buy the core game and the expansion. Most critics and connoisseurs of D&D video gaming will tell you that it's the best experience out there. It has romances and over 200 hours of gameplay (main storyline and tons and tons of side quests). And the best thing is that you have a party of 6 characters, whereas in Neverwinter you're just yourself and one henchman. The said characters (Jahiera, Minsc, etc.) are some of the most endearing and well-realized of all video game personas. Great voice acting too. Good groveling Covenant, I love that game.
Oh, uh. Neverwinter Nights. Yeah, sorry. Forgot. Neverwinter Nights . . . Good game. I think someone here at KW mentioned they were making a Thomas Covenant mod, though I can't recall who exactly.

I have Baldur's Gate II. I was playing it until my hard drive crashed. I haven't re-installed it yet. It never really grabbed my full attention.

I was involved with many NWN projects over the years. The most notable, was a modular persistent world called "Ith'Landriel." It was a seemless tropical multi-server world, that, by design, was expandable to accommodate as many players as possible: that is, as many as you have the server power and bandwidth for.
Unfortunately, I had to retire this project around the time of my impending divorce. Shame, really, I still love the place. Ith really does hold a special place in my heart. Now I know how the Creator feels about The Land.... (does that make my ex-wife The Despiser?? You decide!)
Anyways, some of the more notable features of Ith'Landriel were:
-Height. While NWN was technically a 3D game, the engine could really only utilize the X and Y plane, with very little that could be accomplished along the Z plane. As you can see from the pics, Ith was a bit different.
-Edges. NWN has the bad habit of making everything an uncrossable edge. Elevations are all edges, water is an edge, and so forth. Ith was designed to be seemless, elevations could be traversed, and you could walk as far in the water as you wished (that is, until the sharks got ya).
-No grinding. The world was designed with NO GRIND in mind. Players would receive 200xp per day. No need to go out and hunt for it. Left more time for real role-playing.
-Player build towns. Everything, and I do mean EVERYTHING was player-based. Crafting, houses, shops, towns, it was all designed to be player managed. So crafters can open shops and spend their time in town socializing, and adventurers could go out and explore the world. It was a very symbiotic balance between player-types here....
Anyways, enough of that hooplah! Here's a few random screens that I have saved over the years. Anyone who's played the game before can see just how much we accomplished at ith..

Ith'Landriel, my pride and joy.
