The "music" of the Gap
I think we all picture in our head what each of us feels the various SRD characters look like as we read, but does anyone ever think, or perhaps feel what type of music might be included in the movie you play in your head if it had a soundtrack?
Personally, I hear or envision something along the lines of a Pink Floyd type sound...dark and misgiving.
Anyone else?

Have any of you heard of Therion? Norse opera-ish heavy metal. I could imagine a few of their tracks.
Mainly, though, I'd have to say some slower trance/techno, Paul Okenfold (sp) maybe.
On the station (blast me, but I can't remember... with The Bill), I'd have to go with Powerman 5000.

"It is not the literal past that rules us, save, possibly, in a biological sense. It is images of the past. Each new historical era mirrors itself in the picture and active mythology of its past or of a past borrowed from other cultures. It tests its sense of identity, of regress or new achievement against that past.”

Vangelis would be awesome, or Basil Poledouris.
Though I wouldn't recommend it for the actual soundtrack, this song has always reminded me of the series...

I've never found a song that was actually written about the Gap, and not for lack of searching. Maybe someday; there are several about TCTC and at least one about MN.I'll never forget the first Starcruiser I saw
Moving alongside but well spaced out
She was looking for me so I went aboard
It was dark in her hold and almost as cold
As the infinite blackness itself.
We set off through space at a moderate rate
Going faster than light but not worried
I wondered a mite 'bout my forthcoming fate
She was pulsing out fire while her gauges went higher
Than anything I could believe in.
She was a Starcruser, Star Starcruiser
Starcruiser, Star Starcruiser
She was a mean Starcruiser
And she was cruising me.
She was burning me up and squeezing me out
While the universe grew all-around us
My eyes filled with silver, there was gold in my mouth
I longed for a drink, I just couldn't think
And the speed, it got faster and faster.
We arrived at her base and she showed me her face
Just a glimpse for a second, it downed me
I was really knocked out by her sweet sweet grace
I saw my fate written there, but by now did not care
I was loyal, I loved her, I signed on.
I flew with the cruiser for almost a year
My mind it had melted and changed so
It had blown up my circuits, I'd gone out of gear
I was hers all that time, so strange were her crimes
Even now I dare not recall them.
Starcruisers are bright, and they light up the night
And their style it is clean and it thrills you
They are cool at the kill, you can keep them in sight
They will burn out your drive and they'll drain off your life
And they won't even know they have done it.
Oh, a change is coming, feel these doors now closing
Is there no world for tomorrow, if we wait for today?

Hmmm. I do all my reading while on a stationary bicycle with my pocket pc and always fire up the same mp3 album at 1/2 volume, Peter Gabriel - "So".
It was the fetid halitus of the most diseased mortality condensed to its essence and elevated to the transcendence of prophecy, promise, suzerain truth—the definitive commandment of darkness.

OK, I just heard what would be really GREAT for music for the Gap, or at least a scene (something with Angus, like when he's looking at Davies and is rebooted) I love it. What do you think? I'll host this for a little while.

you're more advanced than a cockroach,
have you ever tried explaining yourself
to one of them?

i've had this with actors before, on the set,
where they get upset about the [size of my]
trailer, and i'm always like...take my trailer,
cause... i'm from Kentucky
and that's not what we brag about.

The only songs I can think of based on the Chronicles are by Genesis. Specifically, the wonderful "Home by the Sea" and maybe "One for the Vine" and "Keep it Dark" -- but OftV might have been written before LFB was released.Sorus wrote:I've never found a song that was actually written about the Gap, and not for lack of searching. What other ones are there? And what's the song about MN?

A rubbish band called Holocaust recorded a TC-themed album. It's dreadful.Relayer wrote:The only songs I can think of based on the Chronicles are by Genesis.Sorus wrote:I've never found a song that was actually written about the Gap, and not for lack of searching. To answer the question, though I'm only a third of the way through book 4, I definitely have a Gap theme song. I wouldn't use it in a film of the books, but I've been listening to it a lot lately and I now associate it with the Gap: Apollo I: The Writing Writer by Coheed and Cambria.

Let's see... there's the aforementioned Holocaust album - think I actually posted all the lyrics to that around here somewhere. Mekong Delta also did several TC songs, which were far worse than Holocaust. Metallica has a song that contains a few lines from LFB. There are two MN songs that I know of, the one I mentioned earlier was 'Geraden's Champion', by Kim Novak. The lyrics are posted on the music thread on the MN board. I'm a big fan of sci-fi/fantasy-themed music.
Coheed and Cambria is on my list of bands to try one of these days. Weren't they compared to Rush?

Major posting deja vu as I try to remember what I said the first time around.
I can see why this song reminded CovenantJr of Nick.

Who by fire I would come
Through these wires I must cut
Atop this tower of loss and lust
I'll gravitate towards you
I will in the now. Hate you
I'll make you wish you hadn't burned our time before
I'll live through this in a manner
Cursed at my own accord
Oh, a change is coming, feel these doors now closing
Is there no world for tomorrow, if we wait for today?

Nicely spotted. The relevance of those lyrics is actually quite startling
The fact that you're giving me more analytical credit than I'm due is tempting to keep secret
I associate Apollo I with Nick for the same reason I associate Til Death Do Us Part (by Madonna) with Covenant and Elena: I first put that song on heavy rotation while I was reading Forbidden Knowledge (and I had the Madonna song on heavy rotation during The Illearth War).
But I prefer your explanation

And just so we're clear, listen to Apollo I before you whinge about it. Coheed's past material, as I said pre-hack, was weak as my mum's tea. The new stuff has more...potency. There's even one that starts off sounding like Iron Maiden (IMO).Rincewind wrote:Coheed and Cambria? ick, next youll say that angus would go well with some Dashboard Confessional, or Death Cab...
