I think we all picture in our head what each of us feels the various SRD characters look like as we read, but does anyone ever think, or perhaps feel what type of music might be included in the movie you play in your head if it had a soundtrack?

Personally, I hear or envision something along the lines of a Pink Floyd type sound...dark and misgiving.

Anyone else?

I don't think I've ever thought about music while reading a book unless there was actual music mentioned. The movies in my head are void of music.

Since the Gap series was based off Wagner's Ring cycle, I'd have to say that the Gap series use the music of that opera. I realise not many people would realise the link, but still . . .

Have any of you heard of Therion? Norse opera-ish heavy metal. I could imagine a few of their tracks.

Mainly, though, I'd have to say some slower trance/techno, Paul Okenfold (sp) maybe.

On the station (blast me, but I can't remember... with The Bill), I'd have to go with Powerman 5000.

Okay, call me a bit of a goth/cyberhead, but I reckon you could do a lot worse than Covenant, VNV Nation, London After Midnight, Gary Numan and The Electric Hellfire Club for a soundtrack.

Or get Vangelis and Howard Shore (Lord of the Rings) to collaborate.

Yes, Michael - Gary Numan or Vangelis would be perfect.

I'm not sure if I "heard" Pink Floyd's LEARNING TO FLY in my head as I read the last scene with Dios or if I "saw" Dios' last scene in my mind the first time I heard the song. Either way I associate one with the other in some affectionate/sympathetic/respectful way.

Vangelis would be awesome, or Basil Poledouris.

Though I wouldn't recommend it for the actual soundtrack, this song has always reminded me of the series...

Hmmm. I do all my reading while on a stationary bicycle with my pocket pc and always fire up the same mp3 album at 1/2 volume, Peter Gabriel - "So".

I think it would be brilliant to somehow adapt the Ring cycle to the movies. It would likely prove impossible, but you could use certain parts for certain scenes.

I never think of music being a part of what I read, buy giving thought to the question, I can't help but think 'Tangerine Dream' would do a pretty good score.

OK, I just heard what would be really GREAT for music for the Gap, or at least a scene (something with Angus, like when he's looking at Davies and is rebooted) I love it. What do you think? I'll host this for a little while.

The only songs I can think of based on the Chronicles are by Genesis. Specifically, the wonderful "Home by the Sea" and maybe "One for the Vine" and "Keep it Dark" -- but OftV might have been written before LFB was released.

What other ones are there? And what's the song about MN?

A rubbish band called Holocaust recorded a TC-themed album. It's dreadful.

To answer the question, though I'm only a third of the way through book 4, I definitely have a Gap theme song. I wouldn't use it in a film of the books, but I've been listening to it a lot lately and I now associate it with the Gap: Apollo I: The Writing Writer by Coheed and Cambria.

Let's see... there's the aforementioned Holocaust album - think I actually posted all the lyrics to that around here somewhere. Mekong Delta also did several TC songs, which were far worse than Holocaust. Metallica has a song that contains a few lines from LFB. There are two MN songs that I know of, the one I mentioned earlier was 'Geraden's Champion', by Kim Novak. The lyrics are posted on the music thread on the MN board. I'm a big fan of sci-fi/fantasy-themed music.

Coheed and Cambria is on my list of bands to try one of these days. Weren't they compared to Rush?

Nicely spotted. The relevance of those lyrics is actually quite startling The fact that you're giving me more analytical credit than I'm due is tempting to keep secret I associate Apollo I with Nick for the same reason I associate Til Death Do Us Part (by Madonna) with Covenant and Elena: I first put that song on heavy rotation while I was reading Forbidden Knowledge (and I had the Madonna song on heavy rotation during The Illearth War).

And just so we're clear, listen to Apollo I before you whinge about it. Coheed's past material, as I said pre-hack, was weak as my mum's tea. The new stuff has more...potency. There's even one that starts off sounding like Iron Maiden (IMO).
