My Favorite Fantasy Story

Post by [Syl] »

I saw this compilation book the other day in Barnes & Noble. Donaldson's favorite story, "The Dancer from the Dance" by M. John Harrison, has a very long intro by him. Some picks by Wolfe, Martin, Gaiman, Pratchett (As well as one of his stories), Saberhagen, and others.

Syl, Did you find any way to access SRD's intro to this story on Amazon? I so enjoy his intros.

Sorry, no.
"It is not the literal past that rules us, save, possibly, in a biological sense. It is images of the past. Each new historical era mirrors itself in the picture and active mythology of its past or of a past borrowed from other cultures. It tests its sense of identity, of regress or new achievement against that past.”

Thanks Syl for pointing this book out. I went straight out, today, and bought it and found the intro very passionate and interesting. Must look this Harrison up...

I also saw that the book was edited by Martin H. Greenberg, a longtime collaborator of SRD. He has compiled at least two, now three books with a story by SRD in them. In The Book of Kings from -95 was "The Kings of Tarshish Shall Bring Gifts" first published, and In After the King from -92 was "Reave the Just" first published...

I too like SRD's introductions...think I will start a thread about them...
