David Brin, Uplift books.
I am presently reading 'Uplift War" book 3 of (I think) 6, and it is very good. I forgot how good it was. I think everybody has, because I see no Davin Brin threads....anyway, I love reading a book with such strong characters that the freaking war is something going on in the background that only matters because it matters to these characters whom you like so much that you hope they get out all right....yeah, Dave's good. Anyway, that's my opinion; anybody else read his stuff? I'm looking forward to reading more.

Dandelion don't tell no lies
Dandelion will make you wise
Tell me if she laughs or cries
Blow away dandelion
I'm afraid there's no denying
I'm just a dandelion
a fate I don't deserve.

I've read almost everything he's ever written. All 6 Uplift books, The Postman (which is way dif from the movie), Earth (that the movie The Core was roughly based on), the fantastic Heart of the Comet (with Gregory Benford), Glory Season, The Practice Effect and still working on The Kiln People. His short stories are very good.
