The Weather

Post by Bucky OHare »

Okay, so Scotland is not known for its sunshine, but this really isn't fair:

"Edinburgh was the dullest place in Scotland last month - and that's official...The lack of August sunshine was mainly due to the fact that the capital suffered one of the wettest summer months since records began...Weather experts said Scotland as a whole had experienced one of the wettest months in history. A Spokesman for the Met Office said:"The weather across Britain was very poor throughout August, with heavy rainfalls and very little sunshine. All in all it was a pretty wet and dull month in Edinburgh, which can't have been much fun for people living there"
[Edinburgh Evening News, Thursday 2 September]

:Help: Help!, which vitamin is it you get from sunshine? is it D or something, and does lack thereof give you rickets or something?

Come on then people, make me jealous, what's the weather like where you are now?

Ultraviolet radiation from sunlight is necessary for the conversion of a precursor of what will eventually be Vitamin D. Vitamin D deficience in children is associated with the condition known as rickets - a softening of the weight bearing bones in the lower legs, resulting in a curvature of the femur, tibia and fibula. The same condition in adults is known as osteomalacia.

It's just Fall here... sometimes really hot sometimes really cold... We'll probably get snow in awhile and then come the -20F days... if not colder. I can't wait  If I didn't snowboard winter would be completely miserable.

Always beautiful and warm in New Mexico--but I'm worried about the 2nd massive hurricane about to hit Florida--this time Ft. Lauderdale right above MsMary and Foamy (Miami) :-|

Good vibes toward MsMary & Foamy & family....

Dr Evil, you could live in Buffalo, NY - in July we had 21 of rain out of 31 days , plus we get more snow than Montana, I think ( ;) TLF)....

As it happens, I was in Edinburgh last week and I can honestly say it is the only time I've been on holiday in August and have had to buy a raincoat. You don't go to Scotland for the clement weather though (and the new Scottish parliament building will probably leak whenever it rains, nice one), and the only drawback was the slightly sucky pictures my camera takes in poor light. I even got to see Martin 'Bigpig' Mor simultaneously unicycling and firebreathing up on Calton Hill.
Q. Why do Communists drink herbal tea?
A. Because proper tea is theft.

The weather's nearly perfect in Beantown--almost 80 degrees, with a lovely cool breeze off the water. Clear & sunny. New England has the best autumns ever.

I'm worried about Hurricane Frances too--though I've been hearing that most of the people on the coast have very sanely evacuated well ahead of time, which is good. Thinking good thoughts at all Floridians! :cross:

Im really concerned about our friends in Florida, and hoping they all stay safe and their properties dont get ruined.
They say even we in Tennessee will get a lot of rain and some tornadoes from this hurricane, so it must really be a doozy....worst one ever?/

Aye, i don't think the tourists have been particularly impressed. Still, you don't come to Scotland to get a tan. And don't even get me started on the new parliament building!!! I can't believe we spent £400million and got that piece of sh**e. Its the most hideous building in Scotland. No wonder its architect commited suicide. Still, at least we've got lovely blue skies at the mo. look i the webcam, i jest not.

Thanks for the info dlbpharmd, 8O I think i'm getting bandy legs as i type.
Sorry to hear about Buffalo though, Earthblood :( , and :bang: to everybody in Australia. stop gloating.

Good Luck to everyone in Florida! Hope you make it through it all okay. :cross:

say a prayer for my daughter's and others in Biloxi . she came home last night and she and the kids are wondering if they will have a home togo back to. Their house is right on the beach in biloxi and they own an RV park a block off the beach.
Fingers are crossed and prayers being said. hoping.......all those who had to stay, my brother being among them, praying for their safety.

The kids went home yesterday. their house in Biloxi was spared. Lots of problems all around them, but they will be ok.
My brother in Pensacola was not so lucky. His home was destroyed.
So sad for all those in the same shape.
