Here's a fun bit. Any guesses on Severian's parents and grandparents? Borski put's forth the theory that they all appear in the Book of the New Sun.

After I see a few guesses, I'll list mine.

Bonus points for guessing who Severian's sister is.

Here's one hint. Severian is quite likely BOTH of his own grandfathers. (I know, I know, yuck.)

Here's another-the rule of names:

All Humans are given the names of Saints. (Wolfe is a devout Catholic)
All Aliens are given mythical names.

Re-read the series with this in mind, and see what doors open.

Interesting. It's hard for me to guess, though I am re-reading the series now for the 3rd time. His sister wouldn't be the girl in the Atrium of Time?

I'm still trying to wrap my head around just how you concluded that Severian is both of his grandfathers, though given that he did travel back in time in Urth of the New Sun, I s'pose it's not entirely out of the question.

I'm going to take a wild guess and surmise that Severian's father was the Autarch and his mother was yet another of the Chatelaines who fell out of favor and was given to the Torturers.

Having only just read The Book of the New Sun, I've of course been thinking on some of this stuff. It came across to me as though Severian believed Ouen to be his father - judging from the questions he asked about whether any girl he loved had been arrested. That would make Dorcas Severian's grandmother. Does that sound right, or have I missed something?
