How long until Lindon says "Nom"

Post by The Dreaming »

I just can't wait for him to re-enter the story. The story of the Sandgorgons seems to me to be something that was left enormously open, exposed, and leaking fluids for the last chronicles. Do you all think Nom is destined to return?

I think he or another Sandgorgon connected in some way will show up. As to whether Linden would or could summon him - that's been discussed somewhere else in here...if I could be bothered to look for it at this time of night, I'd link you. In any case, my opinion is that Linden would be daft to summon Nom. She doesn't know what would happen. Some members have suggested he wouldn't even come, since the "summoning" phenomenon was a function of Sandgorgon's Doom.

Maybe he wouldn't come because he HAD to, he would come because he wanted to. He has trancended being a mere Sandgorgon and has become a conscious being. Who knows what has happened to him since? Maybe he even needs Lindon's help.

Nom was powerfull, but was he magical? I can't see him living for another 35 centuries.
Hopefully Linden won't risk going back in time again, and then ssummoning him, and bringing him back...

Another interesting way for it to turn out could be if someone else names a Sandgorgon. Since we don't know what to expect from Sandgorgons that inherited Nom's knowledge, having one called against Linden could be interesting.

Well, we are dealing with a time travel story, anything is possible. I am pretty sure Donaldson has been hinting that we get to visit the land in the time of the Old Lords.

And I think it not only possible but likely that Nom could live for 3 and a half mellenia. After all, the Sandgorgons are creatures of raw. unbridled earthpower, like the Elohim. The Elohim certainly seem immortal. And wasn't Foamfollower at least as old himself? Powerful beings seem to have great longevity in the land.

I think that the giants only lived a few hundred years, not a few thousand

I've speculated that SRD will end the next book with *someone* saying "Nom"!

Personally i think that most, if not all of the previous races and characters in the story will be seen again in some form or another. I mean come on, SRD has another three books to go, surely thats enough literary space to indulge in a lot of gratuitous exploration.
We will also probably be leaving the land at some stage, hopefully one or two new mysteries will arise to amaze us. The sandgorgons would be a difficult subject to write about though, i mean in what context could they be used? And i don't think they could be visited without having to show us Nom and what occurred after he/it left. But why not? Bring them back, bring them all back!

I think that if anyone is going to enlist their aid, it's going to be Thomas... Nom said he would teach his race, and likely he's been teaching them about the all great White Gold Weilder, who set in motion their freedom. Nom said thankyou to Thomas after all; likely the Sandgorgons think of Thomas as some type of Lord to them.

Well, it's nice to know what the Ranyhin have been up too for seven thousand years, but for god's sake, there had better be...

1) Giants
2) Sandgorgons
3) GIANTS!
4) Jennehyn (sp?)
5) Giants!
6) More dead Foamfollower, because he is a giant. Maybe throw pitchwive and the first back into the story too.

Did you misunderstand me or are you being sarcastic? I NEED there to be Giants in the last chronicles, I thought I made it obvious...

While I agree, I thought the banter had become the topic - and "political" banter can go on for an extended time (and pages). Perhaps I erred in "pruning" vs. splitting - if so, accept my apologies.

.... now let's talk about some sandgorgons!
