The Price of Runes

Post by MrKABC »

When I picked up my copy of Runes at Barnes & Noble last week, it had been first discounted to 30% off, and then subsequently 50%! (with an additional 10% off for being a book club member).

WOW... 60% off?

While I love a good deal as much as the next guy, is that degree of discounting indicative of slow sales?

Not necessarily. Hard cover books go on sale all the time (I'm sure if you check, there will be other books marked down in price) - and it's over 2 months since the release of Runes. Further, post christmas alot of things get marked down.
In Brisbane, most bookstores that have Runes have heaps of copies of the 1st and 2nd chronicles for sale. And there are also alot of bookstores with no copies of Runes - sold out?

How can we find out how Runes is doing?

After Christmas all kinds of stores discount their merchandize. I picked up a copy of The Return of the King special edition DVD for 20$ the day after Xmas and I very much doubt that has been a slow seller. Also, I've noticed that hard cover books, even very popular ones, do tend to get discounted after several months.

OK... so what you are saying is that I shouldn't get TOO worried about the sales of the book... (hey, I chipped in my $$!)

You know, a total WHAT IF scenario... WHAT IF: SRD's book sold SO badly he (or his publisher) decided NOT to continue?

I don't want to be holding a copy of the Canterbury Tales!!! I wanna know how it all turns out in the end, and not from fan fiction either.

(No offense intended to the author of the "Lord Mhoram's Last Ride" fan fiction, that actually was a pretty good premise!)

I agree with Loremaster. I got a discount on Runes, but I picked it up after Christmas; all their hard covers were on sale at that point. Moreover, I had to check 3 different Chapters (the big box book store chain in Canada) before I could even find a copy - they'd all sold out.
