The Elohim "harbinger": who and why?

Post by Caer Bombadil »

There has been some discussion of this mysterious personage and his identity and agenda. Kastanessen himself was suggested, which I agree is highly unlikely.

Chant has been suggested also, a possibility I find attractive also.

Here's another reason to like the idea Chant was the "harbinger". Why would Chant, or any other Elohim, leave Elemesnedene to wander the world warning the insignificant little inhabitants that their ignorance is going to stop being bliss.

A: because he (whoever he was) was Appointed, right?!

Isn't the prospect of Chant being Appointed just too rich?

But if the "harbinger" was not Appointed, then something even more disturbing would be going on, because for Elohim to leave their home and their navel-contemplation to simply go wandering the Earth preaching fire and brimstone, absent any Appointment to do so, would represent a fundamental change in the attitudes of the Elohim and their customary way of doing things. One would think nothing short of the imminent breaking of the Arch, or the rousing of the Worm, would so motivate them.

I had the impression that there was more than one harbinger ...

The first thing I thought when I read that part of Runes was "Could this be Chant?"

That would serve him right to be Appointed :)
