Avatar Sizes

Post by kevinswatch »

So, this is mainly just a polite reminder and request, but could we set an official size limit on avatars? I don't know if we've ever talked about it in the past, but it would probably be a good idea to make some sort of limit so we don't have people making overly large ones all the time. So can we all agree on a limit of avatars that are no bigger than 150 wide and 200 tall? This is mainly to respect people with slow modems or low resolution screens. We'll welcome any comments people may have about this, though. Thanks.-jay

I think Edgetars are just about 200 tall and 150 wide. I think that is the size jay is referring to. If it's bigger than an Edgetar, it's too big.

But maybe we can shrink Edgetars down to 120 X 150 or so if they are a 56k or low-res issue.

BTW....I'll also change my sig image if that is a problem. :)

Yeah, 95% of all edgetars are 200 x 150, and none are bigger than that.

If anyone wants theirs smaller, pm me.

Drew: your av is 146 x 216... what's 16 pixels between friends? :)

The height is really not an issue, because few people have anything over 200. It's the width that is a problem: the wider the picture, the more you have to scroll over to read the text. It clutters the screen and makes reading a hassle.

Edge, why don't you make me a cool cartoon looking truck? Appropriately sized?

I get a laugh when I see that avatar...for some reason I can't help but chuckle when I see CW. Especially in that top hat.

Can anyone recommend a means to get a 150x200 pixel avatar? Hopefully one that doesn't suggest subscribing to a web hosting service just for the sake of one image file?

Edge hosts his images.

But if you want a non-edgetar avatar, I'll upload it to my site and give you the URL.
(I have about 1900Mb unused space on my site)

Or, MSNGroups hosts 3Mb of space for free, which should be plenty of room for your avatar. :D

I use this.
No need to register or any crap like that.
It's as easy as browsing to the image/avatar on your hard drive and uploading it.
You are then given an url that you can use for your avatar.
I don't know how long it lasts but I've had images stay there for over a year now.
And if it does gets deleted you can just do it again.

Very nice, Wayfriend. I commend you on your avatar!
Now, as to the "Magitar" name? Hmmm?
