Here's a question that came up in the Group Read: So you've won the war with Cadwal, Vagel and Gilbur are dead, and Eremis is naked, erect (I mean standing up, of course), and his mind is lost in an eternal translation. What do you do with him?

Danlo suggests mounting him on a pillar in Carmag, à la Admiral Nelson in Trafalgar Square.

I recommend using him as a coat rack.

Any other ideas? Yes, there is much opportunity for naughtiness in this question, so please use spoilers if you're going to be dirty. ;)

They could use him as an advert for the film "lost in translation".

Put him in the middle of a town centre and plaster him with "lost in translation" posters. People will find the pun so hilarious they'll instantly run out and buy the film.

I always figured the state Eremis was left in provided a potential "out" for a sequel, should SRD be so inclined.

1. Nobody really understands what happens to most people and flat glass.

2. What if the mind isn't really wiped, and there is some unusual condition which would allow it to return.

3. Even if it usually wipes the mind, what if the fact that Eremis was caught in a shifted mirror rather than in its natural image makes a difference?

I wouldn't have much enthusiasm for Eremis appearing in a sequel. We've had enough of him, methinks. SRD already covered a lot of ground in Mordant's Need: the story was very scrupulously worked out, so I don't know how workable a sequel would be. Even if Eremis could somehow come back, he is irrelevant as a threat to Mordant. Terisa and Geraden are supreme masters of Imagery by now: they'll just send Eremis back into limbo--or worse. I think a MN sequel would have to be something different, maybe radically different, with entirely new protagonists, and antagonists. Nah, I'm afraid I just don't see it happening. SRD could do what he did with the Chronicles--have a story take place millenia later in Mordant--but it would be extraordinarily cheesy of him to copy himself in that way. :wink:

I was thinking something more along the lines of Eremis bringing Imagery to another world, but that said, I agree that it would be really hard to properly sequel MN.
