Experiment in Madness

Post by I'm Murrin »

I'm going to try and force myself to write something, no matter how bad, as often as I can. I've been thinking a lot about madness and how to write about it's various incarnations, since a story idea I have involves the descent into insanity of a character (nope I've not managed to write anything yet, that's why I'm having to force myself to start writing). This is the first thing that came out when I sat down and started writing whatever came into my head. It's pretty close to stream-of-consciousness, and I'm not sure how it works, but meh.

------------------------------------

He took the gun. He pulled the trigger. He did the crime. He did exactly as he was told. They didn't believe him. They called him mad. They locked him away.
But walls couldn't hold him. Not for long. He was sure of that. He had done exactly as he was told, and he would be saved.
He would come. He would save him. He had to. He promised. He had done as he was told. He'd tried to tell them that. He'd tried to explain.
He was not mad. No. No. Not mad, no, never. Never. He said so.
He promised.
They'd put him in a tiny cell. The white walls loomed over him, menacing. They got closer if he stopped watching. Can't sleep, walls are waiting. But not for long. Walls can't hold him. He will come. He will come. He will. He'll- He is not mad. They didn't believe him. They couldn't handle it. He'll come.
He promised.

------------------------------------------

I think I was trying to capture a sense of desperation, of hysteria, and denial.

Good plan. I try to write something every day, even if I just delete it.

And I think you succeeded. Nicely done.

Yea, i liked it.
Well done Murrin!
But if you're all about the destination, then take a fucking flight.
We're going nowhere slowly, but we're seeing all the sights.
And we're definitely going to hell, but we'll have all the best stories to tell.

Full of the heavens and time.

Murrin: well done. and always write each day. you can edit, or just use scraps of what you have. i keep notebooks with scraps that i can tie together later. sometimes as much as a decade later.

My experiment in same is here.

(Of course, no one has replied to mine after nine months. Yours got a reply in, what, eight seconds. Hence: I am the Hall of Gifts Pariah. Not everyone is allowed to be "in" here.)

Yeah, getting no comment is fairly standard, don't feel bad about it. Speaking personally, I don't come in here that frequently, and when I do I tend to only read things that catch my eye - either by virtue of an intriguing topic title, or because I know I've liked past works by that person. I rarely comment on Dennis's because of sheer volume! I't'd take me a whole day :P
