Changing my band's name

Post by Worm of Despite »

The Greased Out Cats (my band) were pretty wild and "out there" , but I think I might change the music and get more acoustic and such. To that end, I thought I'd spice things up even further and change the band's name. Mind you, it's basically going to be the same band--just a bit more "down to earth" in style (the crazy synth experiments do get tiring).

I'm thinking of calling the band Jesus Fleet, but I'm definitely open to suggestions.

I definitely think you should call your band 'Other'.

Yeah, 'Other' sounds good! It starts with 'O' like Oasis and has the same number of letters, so it could be a good omen for success! Wait a sec...Omen...hmmm...

As a non-Chr-stian, I shy away from anything with JC, or a version of his name, in it.

Greased Out Cats is a kewl name, but it makes me wonder if y'all play Swing?

Otherwise, I guess I would go with Other as well.

I'm not a big fan of Jesus Fleet. I think it will get old quickly, much like those "Jesus is my homeboy" shirts. Bleh.

Other.

There's a guy who occasionally comes into my pharmacy for his prescriptions whose name is Jesus. Fortunately it seems to be pronounced "Hey-suss" rather than the traditional way.

In Latin cultures, that is the traditional pronunciation...

I got The Lap Riders. I always wanted to manage a girl group.

My band in high school was calle Moose Opera. Feel free to use it, I doubt anyone will pony up the required money for a reunion tour.

I'd also recommend Occam's Shaving Cream, though maybe just as an album title.

Funny, that I should reply to this topic a year after the last reply.

Anyway: I record mostly solo these days, using my real name (David Williams), but I think I'm going to keep Greased Out Cats. The band itself is just me and my high school chum Seth. If he happens to record with me on the current album I'm doing, it automatically becomes a Cats album--if not, a solo. Heh.

As for the name: got it from the Bowie song "Ziggy Stardust", where one of the lyrics mentions, "Ziggy really sang, screwed up eyes and screwed down hairdo/ Like some cat from Japan".

Forget where the "greased out" came. Probably me remembering incorrectly that it was "greased back" hairdo instead of "screwed down".
