Stargate (SG-1 and Atlantis)

Post by Reisheiruhime »

Okay, the new season just started, and of course the SciFi channel addicts you early with that SciFi Inside thing. I'm just waiting to see McKay kiss everyone... and to think I thought he had eyes for smart blondes only. *fluffs blonde hair and resumes reading some book on quantum physics... upside down* Ah, well, too much to hope for.

THEY GOT RID OF JACK!!! And they replaced him with that dude from Farscape... Vala I get, but him??? If they get rid of Sam too, I'm going to... to... I'll write a very angry letter. *thinks of the movie White Chicks* Er, maybe not.

Oh, and please tell me that there are other people who think that Danny Boy needs to shave, 'cause he's starting to look a bit too much like my idea of TC. Love Teal'c new hairstyle, the last one reminded me a bit too much of the time travel episode where they meet Hammond... The new one reminds me of Spock, so that's good. Argh, I like Sam better with the short hair... One of these days she's going to look like her alternate reality self, the one who didn't join the Air Force.

The Wraith are awesome. (I dig the white dreads... might be an option for Merlin, and in the realm of fanfic, I can do this terrible thing.) But who're the bad guys for SG-1? I hope I didn't miss anything... Oh, gods... If they kill off Baal, I swear I-- Hmm... Cliff Simon is hot... Must induct him into the realm of TF's fanfiction... Oh, wait, I already have. Tut tut, it's a pity Adian had to leave... he was the pretty one.

See, this is why I hardly ever talk to people... stuff like this ends up dominating the conversation.

Okay, is there anyone as obsessed by these two shows as I am? :)

Damn right, during the breaks between series it's like walking through a desert with what looks like an oasis on the horizon, but which, in time, turns out to be a pit of lava. While there's no stargate on I have nothing special to do on tuesday evenings (or whatever day those crazy schedulers decide to put it on this time).

Stargate might be worth watching with Ben Browder on. Might. But seeing as I loathe SciFi, I'll wait for the DVDs.

You??? Loathe SciFi???? :hairs:

Tuesdays? Where are you??? SciFi Friday, get the chips!

*sigh* Mondays are awful. No, wait. Stargate marathon tonight, I think. *happy dance*

Oh, and we at the... um... crap, I forgot where I am. Uh, we at space totally love Vala. (As long as she's not near us. :P )

(Looks at the above post and thinks to herself: "Lawd, I really need a social life. Hey, Kou'al? Let's go pillage a planet.")

Oh, look, people with white coats and nets. Let's go say hi.

Well, I watched the first four episodes of season 9. Except for the characters, it seems like the same old Stargate. That's neither praise nor insult, in my opinion.

It's weird seing Ben and Claudia, though. It's like a strange episode of Farscape (not that there's many other types). Ben is John is Cameron, mostly (especiallly season one John), though Claudia is not Aeryn. If anything, Vala is a lot like Chiana. *shrug*

Anyway, good enough for me. I'll keep watching.

So did Atlantis ever get any better than the first few episodes, or does it still suck?

Wish I had cable. Kinda. But not really. Would be nice to see Claudia Black and Ben Browder in action again, but I've come to the conclusion that he, at least, can't act. He'll always be John to me.

For me, Stargate pretty much ended when Daniel Ascended. When he came back the chemistry was just all wrong, between everyone. I tried watching a few of the newer eps on syndication, and it's painful... like watching X-Files after Mulder disappears, Highlander after Richie dies, or The West Wing after Rob Lowe leaves. It was bad enough watching Farscape's 4th season... to watch Farscape's cast muddling through someone else's proverbial fourth season is just too much.

Funny, I thought the best thing about Highlander was Richie dying. Actually, it was Charlie, but Richie was a close second. (worst sidekicks ever)

See, I liked Charlie. Wish he'd been let in on the whole immotality thing. Wasn't a huge fan of Richie, really, but that whole peaceful-fights-with-a-stick-monk-who's-not-in-half-the-episode thing they tried to pull off with MacLeod that last season was dreadful, and it has the same "jump the shark"-ish feel as these other shows.

Star Trek as a genre is, I think the best example of not knowing when to quit. These other shows, Stargate and X-Files most prominently, are or were in similar situations.

*banging head against wall in frustration*
WHYWHYWHY does the UK already have Season 2 of Stargate: Atlantis out on DVD when the US doesn't even have a release date yet???? :x Even Australia's got a release date, but not here! WTF??

I don't have cable, I can't tape reruns, I'm sick of watching Season One over and over again, and reading the episode transcripts just isn't the same.

The funny thing is, I didn't have the slightest interest in Atlantis until... well, I don't know when it happened, and the show's not as good as the initial seasons of SG-1, but I love the character of Rodney McKay - David Hewlett is my new favorite actor, I think. But I can't see him as arrogant-hypochondriac-paranoid-genius McKay... because I don't have season 2... because they haven't even ANNOUNCED when they're releasing it. Aaarrrghhh!

I'm just watching an episode of season 9 for the first time, and my first thought: What's with the crappy CGI on the new opening sequence?

Dunno. I guess they wanted a new feel for things, and CGI is all the rage. I don't really like it, either.

I admit to being intrigued by the new story line, though. I hate to say it, but maybe RD Anderson's leaving was a good idea... Now I'm kinda mad that they've canceled the show, just when I've started to watch it again, even if I'm perpetually a season behind.

I think we just finished off the latest round of SG1 and Atlantis until January. :( I heard that SG1 wasn't renewed for the next season? *shrugs* You've got to leave your audience wanting more. And speaking of wanting more. . . Dr. Daniel Jackson. IS. HOT. :D

Been going through the episodes of Stargate. At the end of Season 5, beginning of six noticed that both Chief and Boomer from Battlestar Galactica have bit parts.

March, is what I heard for the US. There's a rumor that the new Atlantis DVDs won't be here untl January, though. And yeah, no more SG1. Why does the SciFi channel think it know what its audience likes better than its audience? We're gonna get stuck with a crappy miniseries resolution just like we did with Farscape... and here I was, just starting to appreciate what a great actress Claudia Black is - I still see John Crichton in Ben Browder's character, but not a bit of Aeryn Sun in Claudia Black's.

I stopped watching when Anderson left; evertime I tried to watch it seemed to be trying to be a comedy show: who will get the funniest line this time before the commercial break. Anderson made it look natural; these new peeps looked like they just learned the lines and could hardly wait to say em. Prob didn't give it enough of a chance admittedly, but too many changes from the classic seasons 1-7.
Cowboy: Why you doin' this, Doc?
Doc Holliday: Because Wyatt Earp is my friend.
Cowboy: Friend? Hell, I got lots of friends.
Doc Holliday: ... I don't.

Still 10 episodes of Stargate SG-1 left, and they have full knowledge of the end of the run, and really not a lot to resolve, that can't be swapped over to Atlantis, so, I don't think there's any need to worry about a rushed ending like the Farscape Miniseries (which was still a darn site better than no miniseries, although 22 episodes would've been nicer)

See, I have a problem with them imposing SG-1's unresolved plotlines on Atlantis. That show has its own storyline, one that seems to be maturing nicely, and I don't really want to spend Season 4 watching the Atlantis folks cleaning up messes in the Milky Way. Half my attraction to Atlantis is based on it having so little to do with the what happens on Earth.

I don't really believe there will be much left. I'm just saying if they've got time for tying up 5 threads nicely, or rushing all 7 (completely arbitrary numbers) the other 2 could always be shifted to Atlantis.

Stargate fans who don't already own the series on DVD, or people who would like to become rabid fans hearken to me: Best Buy has all seasons of Stargate SG1 on sale for $19.99 each. They are listed at $49.98. Here's the link for you. . .

While this topic's on the top: During the hols I've been watching Stargate Atlantis and SG-1 season 9. The last few seasons of Stargate SG-1 are just brilliant, some of the best stuff I've seen in a while. The way they tie everything in, every episode wraps into the main storyline somehow and even the more episodic ones there are things that come back later in the important ones. The first few series just can't compare to 8 and 9 (and, I hope, 10).
Atlantis looks promising so far (I've seen half of season 1).
