The 100 Lamest Songs of All Time

Post by Nav »

Stumbled across the 100 Lamest Songs of All Time on antiMUSIC.com today. We've debated lists a lot on this board, but I suspect this one will have fewer complaints than most.

I'm surprised that Candle in the Wind didn't make it on and I don't really think Losing My Religion deserves to be included but other than that it's quite a good list. I feel they've been a bit hard on Sheryl Crow though. All I Wanna Do is a veritable anthem and I like her cover of Sweet Child. Soak Up the Sun was actually rubbish though.

She's Like The Wind- Patrick Swayze! Now I've got to listen to that--never knew he sang--I'm sure it's bloody awful, but now my curiosity won't let go. I Saw the Sign-Ace of Base damm I thought I had totally erased that from my programming- :x Thanks a lot Nav! :x

Afternoon Delight (even tho it was priceless on that Simpsons episode where Homer fought the bear) and a bunch of Neil Sedaka songs should have been included--they were a little hard on Ms. Crow but right on with Limp Biskit and Warrant. (Night Ranger's even worse) 8)
fall far and well Pilots!

Eddie Murphy's "Party all the Time" is definately worthy of this list (although could have been higher... Horrible.

"Barbie Girl"? Aw, c'mon. this is a hilarous song! Not usually my cup of tea, but the lyrics alone are worth it!

And I must confess a toe-tapping liking for Prince's "Batdance"...

My picks for needed removal from the list:

I Think I Love You - David Cassidy
This is a good song.
Simple and clean.
Just because little girls like it doesn't mean it's a bad song.

Girls, Girls, Girls - Motley Crue
WTF? This is the #1 ultimate strip club song.
Lame my ass!

These next 3 are just great songs IMO!

Indian Outlaw - Tim Magraw

I'd Do Anything For Love (But I Won't Do That) - Meat Loaf

Courtesy Of The Red, White, And Blue (The Angry American) - Toby Keith

No .38 Special?

And I'm sorry, but Every Rose Has It's Thorn is one of the best songs ever written.

I disagree with ABBA's Dancing Queen being on the list. Far from being one of the lamest, I think it's one of the greatest pop songs ever.

One truly lame song that should've been on the list was the abominable Heartbeat, Miami Vice star Don Johnson's deluded attempt at a singing career.

"Heartbeeeeaaat, can you feel my heartbeeeeeat..."

She hasn't quite escaped; may I draw your attention to this entry:

100) Doll Parts - Hole

I'll admit that I'm prepared to give Sheryl Crow a bit more leniency than most. The Globe Sessions is a great record and she goes out with Lance Armstrong. How cool is that?

I'll agree with HLT about I Think I Love You as well. There have been some good covers of that.

I'va also just noticed that Complicated by Avril Lavigne is in there. Now I'm all for Sk8r Boi's inclusion (for the spelling of the title alone for pity's sake), but I always kind of liked Complicated, even though Avril's life is anything but:
Avril Lavigne's Diary wrote:Put on foppish pseudo-goth make-up
Write some teeny relationship poetry
Record said poetry as song
Eat something and throw it up.

HLT,

8) Gold Dust Woman – Hole
When you have questionable vocal talent at best, you really shouldn't cover a song by one of the best female rock/pop vocalist to ever put her voice to tape. It only highlights your lack of talent. There just may be a special spot reserved in hell for those that butcher songs like this.

Plus Nav's song. "Doll Parts" is a very good song, IMO.

Wow, I scrolled the list twice too!
I don't know how I missed it.

Well, now we have a visual to go with the horrible song.

I don't know, I rather liked his cover of Common People.

I'm also intrigued as to why there are 101 songs in the 100 Lamest Songs of All Time.

MM, you're right. Heartbeat is hands down the worst song of all time. And thank you so much for mentioning it, 'cause now I can't get it out of my head. For everyone else, embrace the horror.
I don't care what you say
you can give it away

Your money don't mean much to me.
I've been out on my own
gonna got it alone now

'Cause that's the way it's got to be.
Ev'rybody tells me how I can beat the odds for now.
Well
I've been standing by the fire
but I iust can't feel the heat.

Heartbeat - I'm looking for a heartbeat

Heartbeat - I'm looking for a heartbeat
beating like mine.

Looking at me
it's easy to see

You think you know iust how I feel.
If you do to me wrong and it won't take me long

Before my restless heart will heal.
I'm looking for a love
love like mine

They tell me it's so hard to find

But I can feel it in the rhythm of the heartbeat in the street.

Heartbeat - I'm looking for a heartbeat

Heartbeat - I'm looking for a heartbeat

Beating like mine
beating like mine.
Tell me what you feel now without the heartbeat

Tell me is it real now without the heartbeat?

I remember a story about some radio station in the U.S. that, as a joke, played Heartbeat nonstop for hours as part of a Don Johnson marathon. I don't know how the DJ stayed sane. 8O

We did that a couple of years ago at the office with 'The Girl From Ipanama' - great song but after you hear it 300 times you want to scream.

When I was a teen a DJ on one of those "top 1000 rock songs weekends" played "Stairway to Heaven" for about 40 minutes.
It was dubbed or spliced pretty well.

I liked it.

Totally agree, MM.

Also: what the hell are:

Losing My Religion - R.E.M
I'd Do Anything For Love (But I Won't Do That) - Meat Loaf
Safety Dance - Men Without Hats
I Can't Dance - Genesis
Love Hurts - Nazareth

...doing on that list? Those are all GREAT songs! :x

That is the worst "Lame song list." Ever.

Heaven
Open Arms
Don't Stop Believin'
Smokin' In The Boys Room
Every Rose has its thorn
???

NONE of those should be on that list. Damn, the boys all looked like girls in the 80's and early 90's, but the music was great!

And I will give no credit whatsoever to anyone who puts anything by Journey on a lame song list.

Oh, Cail......thanks a lot for smacking me with the DJ lyrics. Image
